Typhoon Radiator = Bullet Magnet

It seems almost every time I get shot when I'm in a Typhoon, the radiator goes, even when the enemy is behind me.  Am I imagining this, or does anyone else have the same problem?  Just wondering.

I'm going to start keeping a log of my Typhoon sorties, to see if there's anything to this or if I am just being a whiny bastich.

I fly typhoon 3/4 of the time in AH and I too have noticed it's propensity for radiator damage. Whether it's colliding with blown up bomber bits or getting pinged from a p51d 1000meters on your six, the radiator will go out. And from what I understand typhoon was alot less vulnerable to coolant system damage than most other inline engine planes . If you take any damage in a tiffy about 85% of the time(guesstimate) you'll sustain radiator damage. But don't take my word for it ask any typhoon jock .

Dont' feel bad Funked, the P-51 and Bf109 suffer the same bad luck.

True Vermillion, but how can you shoot a p51 in the back without hitting the radiator. And 109 had coolant and oil lines from hell to breakfast. And still typhoon gets radiator hits more often . Like I said though, don't take my word for it, devote a couple days to flying the tiffy .

Yep, P-51 radiator and oil cooler are exposed from the rear.  The units on the 109 and Spit are hanging out in the breeze.

"After its failure in the interceptor role, the RAF then tried to use the Typhoon as a ground attack fighter. However they soon discovered the vulnerability of its exposed radiator to damage from enemy fire, which was causing unacceptable losses on missions over Europe. No solution to this serious problem was found and so the Typhoon was withdrawn from service, and further developments of the aircraft were cancelled."

Nope, never read anything like that...

What bugs me even more is when radiator goes down, how fast engine brakes down.
P-51 with damaged engine still works even after around 4-5minutes, while Spitfire's and Typhoon's seizes almost instantly - 30sec or so. In general, P-51 with damaged engine can keep on fighting, but with both Tiffy and Spit, I'll have only enough time to complete 3-4 circles.
Does P-51 has some special features in it to keep it alive for so long? Or is it a bug which will have to bi fixed one way or another?

Spit's engine should go the same smount of time as the P-51's.  It is the SAME engine after all.

Tiffie was a VERY successful ground attack aircraft.
