P-38J vs P-38L weights

In AH, according to E6B J model weighs 372lbs more than L. Shouldn't be other way around?

I mean, our L has boosted ailerons (hydraulic plumbing, pumps etc), dive flaps (electrical motors, etc), reinforced pylon attachments (also stronger pylons), which rather adds weight.

So how comes? Or did I miss something?

I think the J has a full bar and multiple blenders....I'm not sure though, I'm not allowed to fly those models.

Im sure they weigh EXACTLY the same with the same loads.

I triple checked and, like many others, I looked up weights, talked with the SAPPers and we couldn't find any DEFINITE proof of the J-15/20 (we have 1 of those models; they are too similar for our J to be only one of them for sure) was lighter than the L-5. Not to say it isn't, but we just couldn't find the evidence.

RGR, E6B must be buggy. Checked again few times and sometimes (offline) it shows different weight at same loads.

They weigh the same in AH, although the J really should be lighter than the L, but that is a huge can of worms as my fellow SAPPers say.

The last time we mentioned anything about weight issues in the 38, they added 400lbs to the G.

Imo at least, L I don't care to fight in as much...

Depends on who is flying which one :)

As a 38G driver my hope against a 38J or L guy is to get em nice and slow and out turn them.  It is the lighter and more nimble 38.  I'm not going to follow a 38J or L into the vertical much as the 38G fights downhill better then up.

Yep, when I encounter a G, I take the fight into the upward vertical and try and not get into a nose low turn fight.  The main advantage in the vertical with the J and L against the G is WEP.  The J and L and kick in WEP to give that extra little bit in the positive vertical for the edge.

Try flying the G more and fight like dan and akak said then get back too me no respect for the G

The G is the better dogfighter imho, aside from wep, it is almost as fast and can turn better with the same gun package.

If I could see out of the damn thing with the glare issues, I would fly it fulltime.

I'm flying the P-38 for the first time this month.  Always been in the L until today when I took the J out.  Got 10 kills in 4 sorties and landed them all.  I'm not that good... in fact I'm pretty bad at this game.  That was pretty freaky... so I got back in the L for the rest of the night. :lol

Guess it comes down to fighting styles.

1.  I fly by the "RULE OF 45." If a you cannot get a shot at a bandit through 45 degrees of turn it's time to break off and manuver for another shot.
2.  You deserve to get your bellybutton shot down if you get a 38 in a low, slow, turning dogfight inthe first place.   ;)
