Titanic Tuesday Host connection...
« on: July 09, 2008, 04:15:14 AM »
Sorry folks, but it seems to blow a little. :(

While I have solved my disco issues with everything else, as soon as Tuesday comes I get 4-8 discos. Maybe the server can't handle the numbers we wished it would?

I thought it was just me, but I've heard it from others as well. I also seem to personally see more warping and other visual connection issues on Tuesday's.

Just sayin.

That is all :)

Not server related at all.  When Titanic Tuesday is up, there is simply more of everything going on around you, thus more data for your computer to process.  Connections that are near being overwhelmed will be. Resources that are stretched will be used up and so on.

But, enough with the speculation.  Easy to tell what is going on.  Take a peek at the 'Net Status' graph.  If the 'Variance' is bouncing around, then there is possible resource issues with the computer or something else that is taking the CPU away from the game.  Under normal circumstances, it may not be an issue, but when TT is running, it will be an issue.

I also noticed you are on Comcast.  The traffic shaping they have implemented will cause discos to the game.  The more traffic there is the higher the likelihood of a disco to the game.  Nothing we can do about that.

You can also whip out Ping Plotter and check the connection path.  During prime time hours this time of year, all bets are off.  With all the flooding that has been happening around the country, many telecoms are having to load up their data lines more than usual to off load the lines that need to be repaired and to allow for higher than normal voice call traffic.

The server actually cannot cause a disco to happen directly.  If there are any number of other problems with the connection, then a disco may happen due to the nature of lost packets interrupting a connection.  The server load is pretty insignificant, even during Titanic Tuesday.

Thanks Skuzzy,

I just needed a new direction on fresh data, which you just gave me. My Discos before were Spyware related from another Desktop. I now fly fairly stable. Although you made sense to me on the CPU resource and comcast issues and how the server actually works.

Yes I am aware from your earlier post comcast blows.

So my conclusion right now is I'm just going to have to deal with it.

I made a new game launcher utility that strips XP down to bare bones temporaily, it can all be restore with one button. Much like FSAS. Point being, no services nor processes that are not needed are running. Currently I am killing 14 services and 6 processes on game launch. That tells me I'm just going to have to deal with it, because the game it self flows like melted butter with everything full tilt. :)

I'll be posting the proggie here in the very near future, if that's ok>? I want to talk to HTC before I do that to see if it's ok to include links to this game etc.. within it. It will launch any file but made it based on AH. I need permissions on providing links or logos of any kind etc...

ANYWAY, thanks
