Noob question but here goes.
« on: July 13, 2008, 12:27:52 AM »
Hello, I am known as GhostBer in the arenas and I mainly fly the P-51B and i was wondering how i keep from blacking out all the time.  The Mustang was known for its superior speed and its manuverability at high speeds but i keep blacking out when i try to use the plane to this advantage.  When i try my second fav plane the F4U it gets worse!  Any sort of hard manuver and i black out.  Please help me as this is frustrating.  Is it something i am doing? is there a setting i need to click, unclick?  looking forward to hearing your answers.

You black out like you would in real life. Dont turn so hard, thats all. In the P-51, if you make your turns to where they arent as sharp (as you almost never need to make sharp turns in a P-51) you wont black out.

p.s. you might just wanna mark this as "deleted" and erase everything.  :aok

I would suggest that you fly a different aircraft until such a time that you are more comfortable with everything.  In fact, I would suggest that you start off with one of the Zekes (A6M) and look for furballs as much as possible.  Meanwhile, read everything you can find on ACM and watch all the films that you can dredge up.

Flying an A6M in furballs will allow you to get some kills while you learn the importance of Situaional Awareness.  As you improve in managing the aircraft, and learn about E management, you will feel more and more comfortable with some of the other aircraft in the game.

Just a thought, good luck.

I wouldn't do it yet Steve. If he's asking questions like that right now.  :aok

You're not doing anything wrong, you're just pulling many G's.  Generally, the faster you are, the less hard you'll be able to turn without starting to black out.

Don't be afraid of doing so.  Just try to keep a mental picture of where everything is/should be when you reacquire vision.

OTOH, if you pull too many G's, you run the risk of completely blacking out, and losing all control of your aircraft for a brief time.  It's a fine line, practice walking it :aok

Looking at your score, it seems you've flown only an hour 1/2 in the Late War Arenas, and 6 hours ish in the Mid War Arena.

With only 7 1/2 hours of flying under your belt you are right were you are supposed to be.

Log the practice hours/weeks/months, get with one of our wonderfull Trainers in the Aces High Trainers Corps, and eventually you'll not have this problem.

I liken learning to fly in Aces High with learning a musical instrument.  With less than eight ours of practice, ya' ain't gonna be playing  Rachmaninoff's third piano concerto.

(Edit: and yes, turn OFF Stall Limiter)

All sound advise above but I would ask 1 question.  Do you use a mouse or a joystick ?

Youre turning to hard bud. When turning try to keep the screen from going completely black. Leave a little window of light.

Here's a lil drill you can try offline. Grab a Spit 9 B and get yourself about 5k of alt. Level out and build some speed...250 IAS will do fine. Keep an eye on your G-meter and initiate a loop. Don't exceed 2 G's. If you need a little "umph" at the top, drop flaps. Repeat again but this time set your G limit at 2.5 G's. Build your G's upward till you're riding the "edge" of the tunnel. Try the same move with Split-S manuevers. Once you're comfortable performing the drill with a Spit 9, try it with the Pony B.

Good luck and welcome to AH  :aok

I use a Saitek Cyborg.  I like the joystick.  It is cheap, feels good and doesnt break like my other one did in Air Warrior.

Thanks for all the advice.  i will put it to good use.  I used to play in Air Warrior III a LOT and i never had that problem.  I used to play in beginner mode and not the advanced mode though.  i dont mind the steep learning curve and have been welcomed in the MA with no problems.

I use the Pony B and Hog because in AWIII i was a BnZer.  It is what i was good at but i am discovering that in AH im not that good at it because i have to watch my speed and my G's otherwise i blackout.   I shall try the TnB planes and see if i can make those work.  I have always had a hankering to try the F6F too bad its guns are so........Wimpy.

Again, Thanks for the advice. i WILL put it to good use.

On the stall limiter thing, I'd suggest turning it off also. No sense in limiting your aircrafts capabilities if you don't have to. You probably won't like it off for the first week, but after that you'll love it. Kind of like training wheels. :D :salute

IIRC 7G's is where you black out (all the blood rushes from your head).
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

:huh Ummmm, it has six 50's, compared to the four your pony B has..... IMO, F6F guns are great!
