I  I have always had a hankering to try the F6F too bad its guns are so........Wimpy.

Both the P51-B and F6F use 50 cals. The Hellcat can be configured with 6 wing mounted MG's vs a max of 4 on the B. The Hellcat carries up to 2,400 rnds which is considerable more than the B.

Hint of the day: if you're a BnZ guy who likes non-wimpy guns, give the Typhoon a try. Fly it as you would a Jug. It rolls like a pig but the 560 rnds of 20 mm Hispano cannon more than make up the difference.

just cut your throttle a lil bit when you go to make a high speed turn. then you wont have to worry about it so much. dive, cut throttle turn push throttle then attack

I use a Saitek Cyborg.  I like the joystick.  It is cheap, feels good and doesnt break like my other one did in Air Warrior.

Thanks for all the advice.  i will put it to good use.  I used to play in Air Warrior III a LOT and i never had that problem.  I used to play in beginner mode and not the advanced mode though.  i dont mind the steep learning curve and have been welcomed in the MA with no problems.

I use the Pony B and Hog because in AWIII i was a BnZer.  It is what i was good at but i am discovering that in AH im not that good at it because i have to watch my speed and my G's otherwise i blackout.   I shall try the TnB planes and see if i can make those work.  I have always had a hankering to try the F6F too bad its guns are so........Wimpy.

Again, Thanks for the advice. i WILL put it to good use.

In AwIII BnZ was much different than it is here, especially in the RR arenas. I was always in RRPac, and part of the Mafia, and the 38 and hog where my planes. In AW even when you were BnZing, you turned as hard as you could to get in the saddle on a guy, and due to it being "relaxed realism" you wouldn't black out. With the RR settings it limited the G's, so you never blacked out. Here, you get what you pull  :O

The F6F doesn't have the speed the ponies do, thats why you won't have as much of a problem with black outs, though you can still pull into them. The F6F has the same guns as the 51D so they are not "whimpy", just be sure to set the confergence to the same range as when your planning to shoot.

I switched directly to AH after AW was killed, and it took me a good 6 months before I felt comfortable. You having taken a break, will most likely adjust better (you won't remember old habits so much  :D ) Go easy on the stick, start your turns sooner, and remember, after you get shot down, they give you a new plane for free  :aok

Welcome to AH2 !!

make sure your stall limiter is off... this has nothing to do with blackouts but you'l want it off.. trust me.

Agree, to a point.

Your blacking out cause your pulling too hard if the stall limiter was off you would begin to stall b4 you would black out as hard as you are now, I went thru the very same problem when I first started flying 51's. turn the stall limiter off it will take you a week of flying to get used to it, then you won't give it another thought.

Also learn to ride the tunnel where the screen darkens and you have a patch of veiw in the center it's all about working the stick gently and not just pulling til your blacked out. turn it off you'll be a better cartoon pilot but when you turn it off you will stall until you get used to it.

May I add that if you are new to this game to keep your stall limiter on for 3-4 months until you get the idea of the physics of this game.  Learning to fly without stall limiter in itself a learning curb onto itself and you would find this game disheartning too soon.  Walk before you run.
IMHO :salute

Bad habits, bad habits, bad habits.  Turn it off as soon as you download the game.

He's an old Air Warrior - he'll figure it out soon enough.

By the way, if you need a sparring buddy to go into the Training Arena with you, just let me know.  The bullets do not do damage in there, so we can just keep on going and going.  You get all the benefits of practicing against a live opponent with none of the drawbacks.

Or if you can't find me, just ask just about anyone that seems friendly/helpful.  This is a great community, and there's no shortage of people who will be willing to help you out.  Plus, you'll probably find a few friends of yours from the old days on here.  I'm sure they'll be glad to see you and help get you started.

It has been my observation that the pixel pilot in AHII has tremendous upper body strength that allows him to exert great control authority at screaming high air-speeds, but is abit of a lightweight in terms of the Gs he can pull before blackout (I've seen pilots in the Red Bull Air Race momentarily pull 13 Gs.).

You're saying 7 g's is lightweight?

13 g's? That would snap of wings off probably everything but the 163 in game.

Didn't they not have g-suits until the end of the war?

Well it would knock me out. But apparently not an older guy named Peter Besenye(sp?).

And yes, 13 would exceed the structural limits of most fighters in the game. Pilots shed their wings pulling out more than once in WWII.

Anywho, my point was you have alot more control authority at high speed than you have G-tolerance in most aircraft in AHII, which is why it can seem like you are blacking out every other turn when you first start playing.

Which is one of the best reasons to advise people to turn it off immediately.

I can't remember this for sure but someone might be able to verify it.  A couple of years ago a gentleman in his 80's tried to run in (IIRC) the Indianaplois 400.  He crashed in practice I think it was and the "black boxes" on his car registered something like 89 G's.  He, of course, survived.

Blacking out is a good thing most of the time, just not fully.  You will learn to ride the edge until you have a tiny tunnel of vision to get the most out of your maneuvers.  It can be hard at first because you can't see what's going on but once you visualize things in your head the tunnel vision is not a problem.
