I'll second Lasersilor on Return of the King. While it wasn't a terrible movie, it was a damned butchery of Tolkien's work and Peter Jackson is a damned filthy butcher. I wouldn't mind so much if everyone hadn't gone on about how much Jackson respects and cherishes Tolkien's books.

Sure you do, champ. That's why you needlessly rewrote or removed key elements. Pfffft.

Ice Station Zebra by Alistair MacLean, never seen a movie go so completely off-plot (just as an excuse for a snowmobile chase  :huh)

never read Starship Troopers but the movie is great, unlike the sequel which is my alltime worst movie (and yes I have seen Plan 9 from Outer Space :lol)

There's a third Starship Troopers movie due out direct to video right about now.  It looks to be much better due to 4-5x more budget to spend.

The debacle with Starship Troopers was a travesty. Heinlien must be spinning in his grave over the way they trashed his book.  I never went to even rent the sequal. The first one was so bad I figured there was no way to salvage it.

well if the budget for the original was $10m, the budget for the sequel was $10k. ALL of the CGI/SFX were lifted from the original, the whole thing takes place on the surface of a dark planet (ie 1 small sound stage with a couple of bags of sand spread around and fake dead trees.) It also lacks all of the subtlety and humour of the original, as well as Denise's rack.

Want to know more? No I really dont.

edit: I just checked Saturn 3 on imdb and remeber it. ooo thats a bad movie

I agree. You know that what little bit of the classroom scenes they did include in the movie caused a sh*tstorm with the "profitably-offended". Think what it would have been like if they had quoted the book verbatim. :O

Some merit yes, but I have navel lint that is more talented that Denice Richards.

Picky picky.  I'm sure she has some talents.  Acting just isn't one of them.

The Sum of All Fears

Has to be one of the worst adaptations ever. Listen to Clancy's commentary. He makes it pretty clear that even he thinks it sucks.

I can't force myself to watch this. Loved the book, but Hollywood is too Chicken-Sh*t to call a spade a spade. There is no "clean end" to lift this movie up. :D

Then why was Charlie everywhere but at home? :D

Starship Troopers is a quick read (most of Heinlein's stuff is). Read it and you'll know what I'm talking about.

I don't mind B rated movies.  In fact, I enjoy seeing how far the directors / producers can go on a limited budget.  But the absolute final nail in the coffin that was Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation were the muzzle flashes.

To save a bit of money, the producers removed blank firing weapons, and put in their place guns with lightbulbs at the end.  I am not making this up.  In fact, all of the weapons literally look like toys with flashing bulbs at the end.  All of them.

That's why the movie was so bad.  The whole thing seemed like an excuse for gore and getting that one girl naked.

I am a little optimistic about the next one though.
