
Spitfire Mk Vb coded JU-E of No. 111 Sqn RAF, flown by S/Ldr Brotchie, Debden, February, 1942.
After being ordered to operate in the Night Fighter role in December 1941, 111 Sqn's aircraft were overpainted in Special Night, obscuring all nationality markings and serials. Original markings replaced with special low visibility Night Fighter markings (forerunner of the new nationality markings which would be seen on all aircraft after mid-May 1942), consisting of an 18" square fin flash and 18" diameter fuselage roundel. Codes were painted in Red.
