The Fairness Doctrine....
« on: July 23, 2008, 07:41:39 AM »
Isn't it funny how all of the pundits who were adamantly against the fairness doctrine are now whining about the press coverage Obama is receiving? Let me answer that question.... it sure is.

MT..  I missed the part where they wanted to pass a fairness doctrine to make sure that osamabama didn't get more time than McCain.

I think everyone knows that the media is liberal socialist metrosexual and it is fair to complain.    it is far different when you pass laws against free speech tho.

I guess that is why so many more people are not tuning into the news or reading the papers.   they have only themselves to blame for talk radios success.

Let the free market decide.

It just so happens that the free market is deciding against the News Market.

Um, actually, no. See the mainstream media, which would be unaffected by the "fairness doctrine", especially since they claim to be "news" agencies is deciding against McCain. And it is not surprising. I don't really complain about the media fawning over Obama, I just comment on the facts. They very OBVIOUS fact.

Did Obama go on a trip? Where'd he go?

They wouldn't be fawning over Obama unless the fawning over Obama lead to more dollars in their pockets. So the free market is indeed in control, yet the right wing pundits continue to whine.

Bad right wing pundits, bad right wing pundits!!

I figure it's a gig.  Their work.  The more successfully they get their name in lights, the bigger the paycheck.  Regardless of the topic.

Bah. It's all just sheeple fodder.

Obama or McCain is just more of your rights down the drain.

Vote Libertarian or Constitutional party.

Not really. They fawn over Obama because he suits their agenda. The difference is the "main stream media' claims to be reporting "news", where as talk radio is called "opinion", because that is what it is, and they make no claims otherwise.

I disagree.

If the government passed a law that required that the press coverage that opposing candidates get be perfectly equal, column inch to column inch, second for second, and that the positive/negative spin should be precisely balanced, I would be against that.

Whining about fairness and legislating it are two different things.

I have a question here regarding the topic.

MT are you saying that opinion radio (ie talk radio) is the same as the news broadcast from the big 3 networks? When I say the same I mean as far as bias is concerned from sponsors.  I can see talk radio being sponsored by folks who have a bias but the news is supposed to be autonomous or unbiased journalism. That's a bit of a naive statement on face value given the disparity of coverage but that is the goal I believe.

No

I'm saying that I found the hypocrisy of the right wing pundits amusing. That is all.
