The most amazing thing is that after 8 years of Republican presidency (since Roosevelt, the Presidency has been held by the same party for three consecutive terms only ONE time, Reagan/Reagan/Bush), after Bush II made a clusterfox of his two terms, with a home mortgage crisis, with an oil crisis, with the Republicans running another old white man...the AMAZING thing is that the race is still tight.
In fact, a Gallup poll says that amongst
likely voters McCain is in the lead.
The Friday-Sunday poll, mostly conducted as Obama was returning from his much-publicized overseas trip and released just this hour, shows McCain now ahead 49%-45% among voters that Gallup believes are most likely to go to the polls in November. In late June, he was behind among likely voters, 50%-44%.
At the RealClearPolitics Poll Averages page, Obama has ~3 point lead when six different polls are averaged. That's within the margin of polling error most likely.
So again, given the history of parties holding the Presidency for 3 terms and the in light of the Bush clusterfox the amazing thing is that Obama is essentially neck and neck.
While the media has annoited him King and crowned him as the New Messiah, it may not be decided just yet. Those pesky voters still have to go to the polls you know.
