whats with the pansy 262s?
1 ping PW and wing gets ripped off EVERY single time.
Are perk ride that much easier to kill than the rest?
why waste your perks?
Anyone else having this issue or am i the only one
You're not the only one, but it's really just an experience issue. Fly the 262 more and learn how not to rip the wingtips off.
Learning not to rip the wingtips (or, God forbid, the whole wing) off a 262 is pretty much the same as learning how not to compress in a 109, a P38, etc. You do it a lot and pay attention, watch your speedometer, etc. It's pretty much an instinct now when I start diving in a 262 to throttle back, especially if I'm already doing over 400 knots.
As for the pilot wounds, oil hits, engine kills, etc. yeah that's frustrating, but oh well, just don't get hit and those problems go away. ;-)
A lot of surviving and doing well in the 262 is just being smart about what you do For the benefit of anyone who benefits from this, and with the indulgence of those who don't, here are some suggestions that help out a lot, I find:
1) don't take off a 262 from a sector with an enemy darbar, or from a base that's under attack (I violated my own rule the other day and got poached by a corsair while climbing out)
2) don't land a 262 at a base that's under attack, or in a sector with enemy darbar
3) always keep an eye out for the high Pony/LA/Corsair/etc, they will often dive out of the homosphere with enough E to catch you, if given half a chance
4) be extremely watchful of the skies if you have gotten low near the deck, slow, etc., because of suggestion #3.
5) develop the instinct to throttle back when you start to dive
6) some moves, like the split-S, if you have any speed at all, often result in broken wings/wingtips - be very very careful
7) plan your landings out well in advance - if you have high altitude and high speed it can seem almost impossible to lose that E, so give yourself the time and safety of an uncontested base to do the landing right
8) set your 30mm gun convergence to 650 yards - the extra loft is crucial since in the 262 just about every shot but the AFK kill will be a high deflection shot
9) have patience, do it right - when attacking bombers, take the time to have your speed up, come in from a hard to defend angle, etc. You're right, these planes will lose an engine/engine oil, get a pilot wound, etc. really easily, so make it as hard as you can for the gunner to get those pings on you. If you saddle up on a bomber's 6 in a 262 then you deserve whatever you get from his tailgun.
10) practice ammo conservation and fire very short bursts - always a good idea in any plane, and
crucial in this one
The real key though is good SA and the patience to do things right. That's good advice in any plane in this game, but doubly so in the 262.
