STUPID GAME

Well ,, after watching 30 guys attacking a single base only to be thwarted by 2 respawners for nearly 2 hours ,  TACTICALLY  this game is STUPID (with caps) , fly wise its a damn nice sim. This game would be far more interesting if it was more fluid, some things that would contribute to that would be no sector bars , larger sectors maybe , unable to respawn 89 times in a row and then being able to take off in less than 4.2 seconds ... maybe some reason to not KAMAKAZI  , blah blah blah ,,  i know about taking a base and whats involved to do it like a crack squad ,, but lets face it ..unless EVERYONE is in a "crack" squadron they get bored with this game pretty fast , then people start whinning about why everyone flies from A1-13 or A27-A16 , A1-A27  lets face it ... WHY NOT ?

If 30 guys can't close the field in 2 hours you don't deserve it.

I think its pretty stupid that it didn't occur to any of the 30 pilots to straff the hangars.

Respawning isn't a problem for organized attacks... only for disorganized ones.

Lately, I've seen that scenario.  30+ guys all over a little field.

Problem is, 28 of them didn't bring bombs, and are there to vulch.  One enemy appears, and 14 dive down to get the kill.

For some reason, one night, I found it so funny tears were streaming from my eyes.

As for respawning, geez, you can bomb the respawn points, and vulch the gejeebers out of the guys taking off...

But yep, I am getting board of the smash and grab gameplay.  Scenarios are always 6-7pm EST, which is about the time I'm making dinner on the Pacific coast.   You should try those if you hear about them.

I'm still waiting for a Falcon-like campaign combined with this game engine... oooh...

Excuse me my lack of diplomacy...

YOU MORE!. IF between 30 guys you CANT straffe all hangars is because

1-) you are a group of sheep (doubtful, they look better than you 30)

2-) you cant hit something of the size of an hangar (doubtful, or you'd be in the optic to get glasses)

3-) you are A BUNCH OF DWEEB VULCHERS that deserve no field capture.

Next time kill the hangars. THey are down for 15 minutes, yah know.

If you want to capture a field, dont vulch. Capture the field instead. Pretty easy if you ask me!!!

Yeh.

I'll even strafe hangars with a 1 20mm 109.

All depends n who are at the base. I've noted that the class acts will go in for ack and hangars, whereas the less skilled/not so classy just vulch the hell outta a field.

The classy guys; you know who you are  .

The problem is timing.  It's no good to kill 99% of targets but have the 1% pop up at a bad time.

If people really want a field there is a procedure.

1.  Wait for field to rebuild.
2.  Use mission planner to design a mission that knocks down all targets at once.
3.  Get all people with a clue to join mission.
4.  Pray some love muffin doesn't butt in and spoil your virgin field.
5.  Flatten the field.
6.  BARCAP nearest enemy fields while C-47/M3 are en route.
7.  Capture field.
8.  Enjoy victory cigar.

If 30 people can't take a base from 2 people, something is wrong with the attack and not the defense.

30 people should be able to take a base defended by 10 or 15 people.

The roles of the 30 people involved should be investigated.  If all 30 are there for cap, you'll never get the field.

Tactically, war itself is stupid.  But alas, we still fight wars now don't we?

Lessee, In real war, shut down enemy airfields, capture the airbase, and create a new front.

AH, shut down  enemy airbase, capture the airbase,  and create a new front.

I must be  missing a subliminal message in this thread of yours.

Strat and the Map Room

There are three basic categories of strat targets in Aces High:  cities, factories, and field
  structures.

The city targets affect the downtime of the factories, and the factory targets affect the
downtime of the field structures.  Field structures affect the availability of fuel, troops,
  radar, ordnance, planes and vehicles.

The percentage of objects down at a city complex affects the rebuild time of damaged
or destroyed objects for that country's factories.  For example, if a factory is destroyed
and there is no damage to any city targets, the the rebuild time for the factory would be
30 minutes.  If, however, the city were 50% incapacitated, then the rebuild time for the
destroyed factory would be an hour.  If the entire city were destroyed, then the factory
rebuild time would be two hours.

The number of objects down at a factory complex affects the downtime of the
corresponding structure at the field.  If a radar factory is damaged or destroyed, the field
radar rebuild time is increased.  Field radar will be unavailable if the radar at the field is
destroyed.  If a country's HQ is destroyed, then radar is eliminated and sector counters
  become inoperable for that country.

The field targets affect that field only.

  Strat Groups

There are two strat groups in Aces High:  country and field.  Field targets are tied to the
field group, and city and factory targets are tied to the country group.  There are three
countries in Aces High, the Bishops, the Knights, and the Rooks.  They are named after
pieces in the game of chess.  Bishops are tall and have a diagonal opening in the
faceplates of their armor.  Knights have a horse's head and Rooks look like a castle
  battlement.

The following tables list the items in the strat groups and the affect they have on the
game when the items are destroyed:

                    Country Strat Group
  City targets
Increases rebuild time of factories and HQ
  HQ
Kills all radar for a country
  Fuel refineries
Increases rebuild time of fuel tanks at fields
  Ammo factories
Increases rebuild time of ammo available at fields
  Training barracks
Increases rebuild time of barracks at fields
  Radar factories
Increases rebuild time of radar at fields
  Ack factories
Increases rebuild time of fields acks

                     Field Strat Group
  Fuel
Reduces the maximum allowed fuel load
  Ammo
Reduces the bomb/rocket loadout down to zero
  Field radar
Kills radar in a 12.5 mile radius around the field
  Barracks
Reduces troop loadout for C-47 down to zero
  Fighter hangar
Disables fighters from taking off from the field
  Bomber hangar
Disables bombers from taking off from the field
  Vehicle hangar
                Disables vehicles at the field

  Capturing a Field

A field is captured and changes ownership when ten enemy troops enter the field's map
  room.

  Winning the War

The war is won when any country is reduced to one field.  At that time, the arena is
reset and the country's territory is randomly chosen for the next battle.

Well, from the looks of the above posts you all agree that it takes too much to capture enough bases that to affect the outcome of the overall "war" . For this game to appeal to more people there needs to me a more dramatic , simpler play that EVERYONE even the "newbies" can participate in and have some contribution to the overall outcome  , the 'vulch base...' thingy just gets used too often in this game BECAUSE ONE OR TWO MORONS  respawning 89 times in a row can too easily spoil a base capture !  Don't you people understand about realism? even a facsimile of it in this game would be nice , since when have you ever heard in the HISTORY of warfare that one or two DEAD people can come back and keep defending a strategic position ????   Why is it in this game that you take off , fly to , attck a base maybe die doing so , but the dweeb respawning 89 times only has to clk the mouse button and reappear in the same position to affect  the same defense over n over n over again. don't get me wrong , I never do the respawn defense thingy because I just feel it is rediculous and takes alot away from the game for the attackers , i've taken bases by myself and with a few other 'crack' players but overall with this respawning at the same base 89 times just to thwart a capture is plain ol STUPID.  (for those of you who disagree ...hope you never ever complain about a planes FM in this sim because you are making the same argument I am) ... the FM , aircraft, good people bring in the players but after awhile you need something more to keep them ...even the ones that are'nt 'crack' "pilots".  ////

One obvious display of this is that 90% of the time the countries are locked into "trench warfare"   the lines are static unless one country has an overwhelming numbers or gangbangs a country.

carl,
So what you're saying is that the defenders should just hand you the keys to the front gate when you show up?

Boy, that'd be real fun.  No more combat, just each side going from undefended base to undefended base capturing it.

I don't think you're thinking about this in a rational manner.

Bad tactics, as demeonstrated by those 30 pilots, SHOULD BE PUNISHED NOT REWARDED.  Bad tactics, the base stays theirs; good tactics, the base is yours.

There are many MANY things about AH that are not realistic.  Having 10 to 50 guys being the sum total of a nations military for example.  Due to these unrealistic things, some other unrealistic issues must be present for GAMEPLAY.  Thats right, its a game.  Without these, it'd be rather pointless and without one iota of challenge.

Carl I didnt read your whole rant but I think I got the jist of it. You are stating that the capture of airfields by 10 people is realisic and that the loss of all but one of these bases is grounds for the capitualion of a country. Do you have a historical example of this to support your assertion? You further state that the most inexperiaced warriors should be able to acomplish this.
Well I dont think any of it is realistic..Its a game(dont tell torque!), that is ballanced as a game, and that has very difficult skills and strategy to master before you can expect to contribute greatly to the success of your side(if thats what you want to do).
You can knock down the hangers., you can bring a tank in to keep people down.. You can send a diversion raid.. Even one guy can vulch 15 in a row if he knows what hes doing...
Sounds like you have perfected setting up a vulch..well thats a different thing than capturing bases..Some people like it more...Find a group that you see successfully capturing..watch what they do, stay out of the way or do as your asked...
Work on your bombing skills.
You might find that the game is pretty good the way it is.
