There are a whole host of presidents  Who never experienced Combat first hand (including Eisenhower)
Who turned out to be pretty decent presidents.
While others. Such as Grant didnt always turn out to be particularly great ones.

We've used torture before just like every other country. And we will use it again in one form or another.
Difference between now and the last 50-60 years is we used to have other countries do it for us.

And Having that POW experience might even at some point be a detriment inasmuch as that experience might cause him to hold back when what we really might need is to move forward at a critical time.

Same as there was a reason why they tried to have as many soldiers with no combat experience involved in the D-Day landings so they wouldnt know enough to be afraid which might cause them to hunker down when they needed to charge forward.

I have all the respect for McCain in the world for his POW experience.
But I cant let that be a deciding factor in whom Im going ot vote for.
So far I like neither.
On the points that are Really important. such as their policies I dont find a whole lot to agree with either one.

But im not convinced either of them would make even an OK let alone good president.

I haven't read all of this thread but if you are asking what relevancy does McCain's 5 years as a POW have in the upcoming election I'll offer my own 2 cents. It's about character. About a person's willingness to fight for what he believes is right. About his willingness to voluntarily endure 5 years of hell because of the impact on his fellow countrymen if he took the easy way out which was offered. This in direct contrast to Obama swaying this way and that, pandering to every group he thinks he needs a vote from. Does this mean nothing to you?

McCain changes his position as any reasonable person would based on a changing environment. Obama changes position purely for political reasons. Do you want to debate this?

He served for his country and did all that time in a POW camp.
Most people , if they were fortunate to get out alive, would have left it at that.
McCain instead chose to continue to serve his country and is still doing so.

EVERY candidate will change views, give vague answers, beat around the bush, etc.
they will ALL have their conferences with "planted" questions, or with guests screened before they're allowed to ask a question.

 they all do the very same chit. they want to gain the favor of the people. it is nothing more than a popularity contest. whatever needs to be said will be said. they know that most will forget in about 6 months.

i don't care for osama due to what i read. on the other hand, i really don't care for mccain either.

the fact remains though, they'll both say or do what they feel they have to do to gain your favor. the reason some of you notice osama doing these things more is due to the fact that you hate him or what he stands for. those of you that notice mcpain doing these things is due to the fact that you hate him or wqhat he stands for.

Verily, You've uncovered the true evil of Party-partisan politics. And why even 8 years' from now, This BBS will still be arguing the same arguments...But with different candidates. People are two damn GOP or DNC to pull their heads' out.
