Funny.  The other night my squaddie asked how you change views to get better vis on the ground.  We were on an attack mission.  I said, without thinking, I think it's Alt F1, Alt F2, Alt F3, etc.  The next thing I know he's nowhere in sight.

nope, "pwned" is common typo of "owned" and that's how it started.

You can leave it there if you want but the origin of 'pwned' is a result of a simple typo and there is no fact supporting it was a result of a map maker's mistake.  There are just as many anecdotes that mention 'pwned' in games before Starcraft (Doom 2, Quake, Quake II).  It's like, 'Teh', which is the commonly used tool speak bastardization of 'The'.  Another simple typo that has grown into its own word, no different than 'pwned'.
