XFire Compatibility
« on: August 06, 2008, 06:43:02 AM »
http://www.xfire.com/

Some of you may have heard of a program called "Xfire."  Essentially it is an Instant Messenger based around video games.  You can have a buddy list of players you befriended in-game and it will show what server there in, and I'm sure if it were implemented correctly, which team they were on.  They even allow you to upload screen shots and videos directly to the service to share with your friends!  They also have a function that would work well with our squads, it was built for "clans" in video games (basically squads) where you can post on a calendar, leave messages, and it automatically adds everyone in your squad to your buddy list.

I'm not sure what this would require from a programming standpoint, but I could see it being a very useful addition! :aok

This should be asked in the XFire forums, not here. It has been asked of XFire users for a LONG time. I think XFire may have tried to make the game compatible but HTC turned them down.

I don't blame HiTech if he did.  Xfire is utter crap and riddled with security holes.

Is it?  It didn't seem too bad when I used it for BF2.  What are the security holes all about, like allows more game hacks, or more like someone could access your computer through them?

Oh, I see...

I'm just curious now, but do you have any websites that have info on the security holes?  I used it for a while so I'd just like to know what could've happened.

I should've?  I felt that this was a wishlist item... :P

I personally have had no issues with XFire.  It'd be cool to at least have compatibility for those who choose to use it.  Then again, I really don't know the extent of programing it takes to make it compatible.

The one issue I had with it is when it decided to do an update, it would close the game I was playing.  Only happened once or twice, but irritating nonetheless.

Both Denholm and I use XFire a lot for flying in FS2004. I asked for this a long time ago in their forums, but got little support.

I don't know that I'd compare XFire to Teamspeak at all, really.  This is more of a "Instant Messenger and community" program than a "VOIP" program.  While XFire does have VOIP capabilities, I wasn't really thinking of using it that way.

Does anyone know the extent of programming needed to make the game/XFire compatible?
