They should both back off while things cool down a bit. UN?

Certainly the US has been calling for a cease fire. Russia has veto power in the UN so it's powerless, as usual. Has the EU demanded a cease fire?

So Russia isn't receptive to polite requests for a cease fire and the UN is powerless to do anything. What next? Everyone squeakes about the US' involvement in world affairs so don't expect us to police this.

Russian columns have invested Gori and a second column, invading thru Abkhazia has taken Zugdidi and Senaki and invested Potoi. Gori and Potoi will fall today.

..... folks, the Russki's will likely not stop until they have taken Tbilisi, and arrested their government.
Looks like they will get no help from Europe. No help from Ukraine. No help from US.

Maybe the Chinese will send their basketball team.

...and another little pro-western democracy falls.

Who's next?

time to kick russia out of G8, expell them from any WTO dealings and start sending shipments of shoulder fired anti air missles to georgian self defense forces (if they are not already enroute).

Wonder how long it will take putin'satan to reclaim east germany?

History teaches that the the Europeans will continue with appeasement.. until it's to late. Sad to say, I'd like to see the Georgians enthusiastically supported. But reality dictates that just won't happen. If we can't get free Europe to defend free Europe, why are we wasting our time and money protecting them via NATO?

Time for the withdrawal of US troops from all european locations and pull out of NATO.

The hell with europe. Let the Bear have them.

Helmand in Afghanistan? the Tommies are doing good work there. But, since the rest of Europe regards Afghanistan as a lost cause.. like Georgia, perhaps it would be best if your guys and ours leave the Afghans to their destiny.

Sorry Dowding... for the first time in memory I find the two of us in utter agreement on an international issue. The rest of Europe seems to disagree with us on this one. Sign of the times... your internationalists have their  EU Soviet to build; we have problems in our own hemisphere that need attending to.

*sigh*

Lemme know how the russian language lessons work out... maybe you'll have a nice teacher.

Good luck, buddie.

1. do nothing
2. do nothing

3. Just wait for Ukraine to join NATO.  Georgia was promised NATO invitation, but that won't happen for a couple of years.
