Toad - I was replying to the post before yours. Regardless of the state of readiness of the Russian troops, I think Russia had legitimate grounds to push Georgian forcces out.
The West betrayed them.
The *Soviets* who were hung in Hungary were as I recall, Hungarians who had been colaborating with the Soviets. These people were viewed as traitors to Hungary and as such were executed. The Soviets also used MiG's to bomb the Hungarian forces, tanks fired at buildings, blowing them apart, just because they saw movement in the building. The Soviets had to bring in troops from the east because the garrison troops had gotten to know the Hungarians and weren't ruthless enough. Don't start spewing your Soviet propaganda on this one Boroda. I've read many of the eyewitness accounts from participants who escaped during the aftermath. What the Soviets did in Budapest was reprehensible.
I concede that point. However, my point is that there is a line of credulity up to which certain circumstances are plausible. The Russians have overstepped that line by occupying undisputed Georgian territory, particularly via Abkhazia.

Just like that Georgian moron Saakashvili they thought West will support them. And also keep in mind that there was no de-nazification in Hungary, so many insurgents were nazis and their collaborators.
Goto Google and type in "French military victories", then hit "I'm feeling lucky".
You are repeating the same cold-war crap you have in your brains. I have talked to people who have been there and have read enough on that sad story.Insurgents were deliberately executing Soviet citizens. Just like that Georgian moron Saakashvili they thought West will support them. Indeed, the Russian column that moved through Abkhazia has been all but forgotten in this thread. That move by the Russians really kills any credibility they might have had if they had only forced the Georgians out of South Ossetia. Instead, they appear as liars and cheats.

South Ossetia declared their independence from Georgia over 10 years ago.South Ossetia is as much a part of Georgia as the Colonies were a part of Britain on July 5, 1776.
They arent recognized as a country by most countries. If they want independance, then why should Russia help them? Russia would just gobble them up.
