More guys in ninja suits...
« on: August 07, 2008, 08:20:25 PM »
Surprised this didn't make it in hear yet...

http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/08/07/mayor.warrant/index.html

I'm wondering about this bit:

"But Prince George's County Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Taylor said legal counsel had informed her that "no-knock" warrants do not exist in Maryland."

And an additional question:  After they kick your door in, shoot your dogs and determine you're innocent...do they fix the door, buy you new dogs and say "our bad"?

I find it hard to believe that "no-knock" warrants are not existent in Maryland. Sounds pretty crummy if its true.

Morale of the story: Don't manufacture, distribute, sell or in anyway have anything to do with illegal drugs and the cops wont bust down your door and shoot your dogs.

The law applies to Mayors and their families as well

Apparently, one in five people in the world are Chinese. And there are five people in my family, so it must be one of them. It's either my mum or my dad. Or my older brother, Colin. Or my younger brother, Ho-Chan-Chu. But I think it's Colin. - Tim Vine.

I'm having trouble understanding something here.

It said that drugs are mailed to an unknowing recipient and then intercepted.

Is it the police that send the drugs, and then arrest whoever's at the end?  Or is it that police knew the package was being sent and were waiting for it to be "Intercepted" by the drug dealers?

If the latter is true, and the authorities knew how the scheme worked, why would they go in guns blazing if the package was never intercepted?

Perhaps I'm just burdened with an over abundance of logic, but this isn't adding up.  Either the mayor's a drug dealer, or some of the dumbest mother diddlyers on the face of the planet are heading up their police divisions.

As I read it, this is the case.

A guy who used to work where I did, got busted for credit card fraud pulling a similar stunt.  Steal CC #'s, ship to owner's address, then hope they aren't home or leave the package to be returned on their doorstep.

With drugs, I think they just play the #'s as well.  A certain # will get intercepted, but what makes it through is worth it.

Morale of the story: whether you're a Mayor or a normal Joe, don't live at the address where someone randomly ships drugs and your dogs won't be killed.

That's the thing I'm not understanding.  If the package reached the house, then the police department had a good idea that it was never intercepted.  Why not go to the front door, knock and explain what was happening?

Most big dealers would know not to send via mail.  So if these people are stupid enough to send through the mail, you could probably ask them for it.

If thats the case Kam, there is a drug dealer laughing his rear end off right now. If it's the truth, I'm kinda giggling with him.

A few more details on the drug ring from a local news station (WTOP):

BERWYN HEIGHTS, Md. - Marijuana found on the doorstep of a mayor's home was part of a large drug ring that shipped drugs to random homes, Prince George's County Police say.

Police say Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo does not appear to be connected.

The ring involved more than 400 pounds of marijuana being delivered to random addresses all over the county by an independent courier. Police say a third party would then pick up the marijuana.

Police have arrested two people in the case and confiscated 417 pounds of marijuana.

Police say they did not make a mistake when they raided Calvo's home and shot and killed his two black Labrador retrievers after seeing him bring a package addressed to his wife -which contained 32 pounds of marijuana - inside.

-----

My brother lives about 5 miles from this guy, could've been his house chosen (works 9-5, no one home...), which is why I'm wondering about this.

Wow, seriously, did you read the article. I mean, either you didn't or you have some sort of reading comprehension issue.

Sure they did. Since they already knew how the drugs were being shipped they knew the people being shipped to were innocent. All they needed to do was knock on the door, explain what was going on. However, I have never seen a police agency apologize, or any government agency for that matter.

That 92 yr old lady a few months back probably never thought it would happen to her. She had nothing to hide either.....yet....now she is dead because of a no knock raid conducted with to little evidence.

My brother is a Fed and he has told me about a bust they made where they found out about a shipment of drugs and traced where it was going [a post office] and put an inside man in the post office to let them know when the package was picked up and they would be outside waiting for them coming out with the package.

As for the cops saying they felt threatened by a couple of Labs, thats pretty lame. I doubt any who is a drug dealer would have Labs as guard dogs. They simply did it to keep them from barking. I figure hes gonna be retiring from his mayors job a rich man.
