2010: The return of High Performance JDM sports/super cars?
« on: August 14, 2008, 02:09:05 AM »
Back in late 1980s to early 1990s, JDM high performance cars surprised the automotive world like a Pearl Harbor attack.  JDM proved that they can compete in all segments ranging from exotic, muscle, and high performance through technological know-how.

Here's how the competition was like in late 1980s-early 1990s...

Exotic:
- Ferrari 348, Lotus Espirit vs Honda NSX

Muscle:
- GM Corvette C4 vs Nissan 300ZX, Mazda RX-7, Toyota Supra Mk. IV

High tech, high perofmrance
- Porsche 911 vs Nissan Skyline GT-R

Now fast forward to 2008, high performance JDM is now back with the reintroduction of Nissan's R35 GT-R.  Others are making a comeback too, Lexus is planning to roll out the exotic LF and Honda is reintroducing the NSX.  Currently Lexus LF and Honda NSX is still in prototype stage and is scheduled to go in production in 2010 (or later).  Prototype LF and NSX posted lap Nurburgring lap time of 7:24 and 7:37 this year.

Just think...GM could put on one of those NASA designed swimsuits on a C6 Corvette and it would beat anything.

Apparently the vspec GTR will get 700hp or so, and lose about 300lbs.
