You watch too many Rambo-3.

Explosive toys were delivered from the "free world" and dispensed by "freedom fighters". It's a fact.

Several million Hindus knew pretty well that they got killed for her majesty the queen. Comparing british crimes to what Russians did is just funny.

8th for a nation of 150 million people. For shame!  :cry

Who's next for the Russian bear? The peace-loving pygmies of the Upper Volta? I hear they are armed to the teeth with dried grass and sharpened mango. Should be just the ticket!

LOL it's not Dowding, it's someone quoting Margaret Thatcher.

Let's wait until he'll make another quote: "Russian population needs to be reduced to 30 million who will work on supporting oil and gas pipelines".

Of course he'll say 'Russians not interested in medals....'

...and I'll put up pictures of all the soviet heads of state at mayday parades with medals plastered all over them ...

..and he'll say 'What Medals?'

:D

Oh - and WTG Team GB. Unfortunately I think it might be downhill from here though.

If we sum up all medals won by former USSR - we'll beat the Chinese.

This is the first Olympics where we don't use Soviet heritage. As for me we are doing unexpectedly good.

As for Brezhnev, there was a joke. Say it in Brezhnev's voice:

"Comrades!... Western press spreads silly rumors that I am hungry for awards. I have to say it's not true. For example: last week I was awarded a greatest, I underline, greatest sign of merit from Papua New Guinea, a Big Goldten Ring in the Nose, and I refused." /*loud applauses  turning into ovation*/

Well however short lived it might be, it's still good to see. 12th ain't that bad.

BTW Hangtime, medals are bourgeois bawbles and symbols of the yoke of capital ownership.

Boroda - you are not the USSR. You singularly fail to grasp that. By your anachronistic logic, Britain could count all of the US's medals.

LOL Holden

As a former competitive rower, I only really find the rowing and the beach volleyball interesting.

Former?

I'm planning on racing in Sydney in October 2009.  World Masters games.

There must be masters rowing in the UK.  I think it's a royal decree.

>>edit I share your sports intrests but I have to add team pursuit track cycling.  Team pursuit is like watching a 40 mph ballet.

If you think Soviets dispensed toy-bombs - then your brain is a size of a walnut.

If it's a little bigger, like Homer Simson's, then you may think of why did Russians need this, especially because their main goal was to gain population support, and that they got it.

So your happiness was quite short :D

I am pretty much aware that USSR is no more and we finally don't have to feed all that countries. Your colonies fed YOU and starved themselves.

Olympic medals, 13th place, is the last thing you have left to be proud of. You are now an Upper Volta, an unimportant appendix to your former colony. Only fascists like Maggie you quoted above saved you from starvation, ration cards and a 3-day working week. LOL we collected warm clothes for you back in 1984 and you admitted you actually had no option then to wear them.

Tell me is it possible for UK soldiers there to leave their bases without permit and return back after good time with locals. No?! What a diddlying surprise! :D
