All three of McCains sons serve..  a Navy pilot, an Army Lt; one at the Naval Academy.

Contrast this to Obama's ties to terrorist groups:

Obama Had Close Ties to Top Saudi Adviser at Early Age

New evidence has emerged that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was closely associated as early as age 25 to a key adviser to a Saudi billionaire who had mentored the founding members of the Black Panthers.

you might want too go back a few hours to when the speech was released to the press before you say that

Show me the pre-released version of the speech with that line right there.  It won't be there.  She probably wanted to use that line given an opportunity, and when one presented itself, she took it.  It wasn't there though.  You could see it in her body language how obvious it was.  She dropped mid sentence in the teleprompter text to get it in, then moved on right where she left off.  Gutsy move in my book.

If I'm wrong I'll go make nice with Rox and run mishuns all day in the MA.

she seems smart and quick, a very good speaker, although i thought she held back some.
i think she will tear them up in the debates, were she will have too shoot from the hip!
i also like the thought of 16 years of her, 8 as VP/8 as pres. from the impression she gave, but only time will tell :aok

As promised I am looking at the Rep convention with the same unbias I looked at the Democratic one.

Yea yea I know I didnt comment on Bidins speach.
Probably because I find him only slightly less exiting then McCain (only slightly)

Who knows. Maybe I wont comment on McCains speech either just to be fair.

I've had reservations about this lady.
The pick just didnt seem to make sense to me as all it did was make happy a group that was at worst hold their nose and vote for him anyway (in Laz type fashion) rather then vote for Obama

Well After watching this speech. This entire ticket doesn't make sense.
Can we have a do over?

Now,now kiddies. Pull your panties out of your crotches.
Its not what you think.

My impressions of the speech and the woman. ("Taken at face value". Just as I said about Obamas speech)

Impressive.
Very very impressive.
Now why doesnt this ticket make any sense to me?

Because they are assuming the wrong roles.
SHE should be running for Pres and he should be the VP running mate.
Assuming all she said is true
She's obviously done a good job in Alaska.
She obviously knows How to run an executive administrative position.
As far as Domestic matters are concerned. She is a better fit as president.
McCain's experience in congress makes him better suited to foreign affairs and as a gobetween congress and the White House.

Based on my impressions of her as of now. And my long held impressions of McCain.
I just think she would do a better job.

Anyway. VERY well delivered speech.
Nothing to really pick apart cept maybe the abortion issue. And thats not going anywhere anyway. So its a non issue.

On a more humorous side note.
She kinda reminds me of a cross between the Flying Nun (Sally Field) and a librarian.

Other note.
Anyone else notice how her young daughter was loving the limelight?

I rarely use the term cute except in sarcasm.
But she was cute.

Okay can we stop with this nonsense?  If you expect a guy who was hobnobbing with the radical left in inner city Chicago politics to not be tied in some way to black militancy by some association, you're either naive, too young or just stupid.  Go after the man on his ideas, not because some weak, far-flung "association" he may or may not have had at the age of 25.

Very solid job. McCain, or whoever selected her knew what they were doing. Sharp, tough... a multi-front attack on her and her family all week and she steps up to the podium confident and ready for battle. Add a liberman or romney to the ticket and you not only lose the base (and then some) but you create the Ambien Snooze Express. Hell, with Palin they even hit the special needs family niche :)

Surprisingly, she not only won over the doubters at Fox (who were not fans) but CNN and even MSNBC gave her more than grudging respect. I bet she gets more favorable treatment now that she has endured the hazing and shown star power. She can officially be anointed a "somebody" in the Washington club. Maybe even get a shot or two at Meet the Press.

I may actually vote for Juan McShamnesty now (not that my vote matters in Illinois) instead of that libertarian chap. Dare I drink the "reform" coolaid after such milestones and McCainFinegold? Who knows.

Yes, a solid move by someone in the campaign (barring any real scandals, etc.).

She's a pawn in a lame dirty game. The only thing she portrayed were the words off a teleprompter that some bellybutton kissin power hungry party heads wrote for her. Same with Barry Obomya. Republicans and Democrats just pander to whoever their tryin to suck up to on that particular day.

Oh and thanks to that redneck woman chick for bombing the climax note of our national anthem  :frown:

Palin: Iraq war 'a task that is from God' By GENE JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 17 minutes ago

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a "task that is from God."

In an address last June, the Republican vice presidential candidate also urged ministry students to pray for a plan to build a $30 billion natural gas pipeline in the state, calling it "God's will."

Palin asked the students to pray for the troops in Iraq, and noted that her eldest son, Track, was expected to be deployed there.

"Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God," she said. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan."

A video of the speech was posted at the Wasilla Assembly of God's Web site before finding its way on to other sites on the Internet.

Palin told graduating students of the church's School of Ministry, "What I need to do is strike a deal with you guys." As they preached the love of Jesus throughout Alaska, she said, she'd work to implement God's will from the governor's office, including creating jobs by building a pipeline to bring North Slope natural gas to North American markets.

"God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she said.

"I can do my job there in developing our natural resources and doing things like getting the roads paved and making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns, and making sure our public schools are funded," she added. "But really all of that stuff doesn't do any good if the people of Alaska's heart isn't right with God."

Palin attended the evangelical church from the time she was a teenager until 2002, the church said in a statement posted on its Web site. She has continued to attend special conferences and meetings there. Religious conservatives have welcomed her selection as John McCain's running mate.

The Assemblies of God, which claims nearly 3 million members, is one of the biggest Pentecostal groups in the U.S. Unlike most other Christians — including most evangelicals — Pentecostals believe in "baptism in the Holy Spirit." That can manifest itself through speaking in tongues, modern-day prophesy and faith healing. The Assemblies of God teaches that spirit baptism must be accompanied by speaking in tongues. Still, some churchgoers never have the experience.

Rob Boston, a spokesman for Americans United for Separation of Church and State, lamented Palin's comments.

"I miss the days when pastors delivered sermons and politicians delivered political speeches," he said. "The United States is increasingly diverse religiously. The job of a president is to unify all those different people and bring them together around policy goals, not to act as a kind of national pastor and bring people to God."

The section of the church's Web site where videos of past sermons were posted was shut down Wednesday, and a message was posted saying that the site "was never intended to handle the traffic it has received in the last few days."

Now...I wonder if she's gonna have a split with her old pastor the same way Obama did?

Whether good or not....is not for me to judge.  (I am pretty tired of hearing about her husband being a champion "snow machine" racer, though.)

I will say, there was very little in the way of specifics contained within her speech.  It was incredibly "soft". There was very little meat in this speech.... soft jabs at Obama and some relatively minor poo flinging, notwithstanding.  I don't think she's helping or hurting the McCain Camp, I do think she's in waaay over her head.  Her part in this election is slowly drawing to a close.  The surprise factor is wearing off.

Her writer needs to be fired, as well.  Talking about herself as a Washington outsider not interested in "the Washington crowd" doesn't really help her candidate, who has been one of those "insiders" for almost 3 decades.  Perhaps the VP candidate is already distancing herself?   :lol

Couldnt dissagree with you more.

These speeches rarely if ever have any "meat" or specifics in them. Obamas didnt either and Mccains wont tomorrow.
Those soft jabs were pretty good zingers. Mike tyson type jabs. They hurt alot more then they look like they do.

Good shots against Obama was the comparison of him being a community organizer and her being a mayor. and the mayor actually having to be responsible for something.

The Insider shot is well placed. As it speaks out to alot of people who are sick of exactly that in Washington.

The woman hit a home run.
And made it look easy.
She's got alot more going for her upstairs then just looks.
If Obamas group underestimates her in the debates. They are in for trouble.

The surprise factor is one area you may be right on eventually.
Depends on how fast this novelty wears off.
Alot of it is going to be up to her.

True.  Just mention that you've been in uniform, defending our way of life and suddenly you're a nazi supporter.  Did you see the BS the liberal media spewed?

IIRC, someone on NBC called her greedy for keeping her baby with downsyndrome and 'implied' that she should have gotten an abortion. Just from what's been around. I honestly think that they're scared of her.

Edit: I'm still not very sure on this, I never got a 'yea it happened' or a 'no it didn't happen'

Would be nice to find out.

Excellent observations... I was telling my slowly turning purple liberal ex wife that I thought Palin has the best pick fer pres outta the bunch.. good thing i don't eat her cookin anymore. ;)
