You must not know where the bulk of your taxes go.

If 1 cent of my taxes goes into wellfare it's too much in my opinion.

Hmmm....Skyrock, I would add that they will fight, steal, or burn-down and loot before they let themselves' starve. (Think Rodney King riots' here...)

For a lot of you guys' arguing this, I would say that for better or for worse, the U.S. will more than likely have a socialist component for the rest of it's existence in it's current form, due to it's ever-increasing population and the almost constant flux of it's key/core industries' and other sources of employment.
I agree, and we should have a safety net to prevent kids from going hungry and without health care, but it needs to be done right and be a tight ship.

I am saying that your staunch republican stance on every issue makes you sound like a Nazi.  "F everyone if they aren't just like me."  Well, there are going to be a certain percent of the population that will never be able to be normal, work normal, or for that matte, act normal, and they will probably end up being a parent that can't take care of their child properly.  So, you think because that person isn't able to be normal, their child should just die?  wouldn't that be abortion by indifference?
You have to improve your interpretation of Lazs' individualism perspective.  He isn't nazi.  I have the exact same stance on individualism and I'm certainly no nazi..  Extrapolation is no more fit to firmly stand on than speculation, or thin ice.

individualism .
Every nation in this day and age should have welfare type safety nets for its own citizens, the fact that ours is broken does not make it any less needed nor important.

I agree, and we should have a safety net to prevent kids from going hungry and without health care, but it needs to be done right and be a tight ship.

The real problem is that it is fairly easy to exploit any holes' in the welfare systems' security, simply because of the large number of people that have to be dealt with. Technology is starting to provide some answers, but by and large, those are taking a long time to be enacted. Unfortunately, many of those measures' might include some things' which infringe on the Bill of Rights, but...with the numbers' of people that are using Government money/social systems' today, we may wind up having to implement some pretty draconian measures. The 'credit card' that Lasz has mentioned is one way. Other programs, such as WIC (Women, Infants, Children) with it's voucher system, could be another. To me, It seems' that one major failing of our current welfare system is that it's not really taking advantage of the advances made since it's inception.

BTW...Lasz mentioned that the cards' were introduced in an attempt to keep the recipients' from feeling guilty, or because of their Self-esteem. That is not the case. It's because the old Food stamp system had become a kind of second currency, that people were actually trading for other things, even including drugs off of the streets.

welfare is a disease. it infects government, sickens the body of society.

IMHO, if a person is on welfare, his/her voting rights should be suspended.

call it a vaccine against socialism.

Exterminate the needy?

It's called survival of the fittest. I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you want to help support someone who is too lazy to work, then feel free to do so with your money, and stop wasting mine.

The Government wellfare system should be terminated. Let the local community volunteer organizations provide help based solely on donations made by people that choose to donate. Offer a tax break for those that chose to donate to those organizations and keep the money raised in the local community to help those that need it in that local community.

If the Federal Government wants to run a wellfare program then treat those wellfare recipiants just like any other federal employee. Random MANDATORY drug testing. You pop positive, your gone!!

The problem right now is there are no negative consequences for those on wellfare who break the rules. If anything the more they screw up, the more money they get.

Here is how I think Federal Wellfare should be run.

1st everyone going on wellfare is doing so by their own freedom of choice. NO ONE is forcing them to take that money so......you want the check you have to follow these rules or you loose that money FOREVER!!!!!

1. Single women going on wellfare MUST be on birth control.
2. Married people going on wellfare may only have 1 child while receiving wellfare.
3. Single males between the ages of 18-28 who are capable of passing a military physical, may only recieve wellfare for 1 year. After that they either come off wellfare forever or they MUST enlist in a branch of the armed forces or some other government service agency.
4. Random drug testing is mandatory. Test positive for a controled substance without a prescription, loose any and all benifits forever.
5. Any person on wellfare convicted of any crime other than a misdomenor such as a traffic violation, loose all benifits forever.

There are a few more but those are the biggies 'd like to see implemented. End the free ride and make them responsible for themselves. They have a choice. Follow the rules or loose your benifits.

That's not the case now. Instead when they demand more we give it to them and ask nothing in return. Sorry but I expect to get something for my money, and the ONLY thing the money being tossed at the wellfare program has gotten me is higher crime, lower property values, and a perpetual cycle of racisit hypocrits.

You might throw in that it can be manipulated into being used as a political tool as well, Hangtime.

However, if we suspend voting rights' for people on it, (which is in essence, suspending the constitution in their case) then we need to ask...What did we just do to every soldier who ever fought or died on foreign shores, who ventured forth against tyranny...? Because if we do suspend any rights to an American citizen because of their social status, then we are morally no better than any communist or fascist regime, dictator, or despot that we have ever fought. We would have sent Hundreds' of thousands of our bravest to fight and die for...what, a caste system that only allows' rights to some citizens, and none to others?

a citizen, on the public dole for his existence, is not a 'citizen'. He's a 'subject'.

Jefferson favored the vote for property owners only... further; the folks paying for government via working and paying taxes have a right to a voice in government. And a right to exclude those who don't from voting themselves more free bread and circuses.

Better yet TwentyFo or 50 Cent or whatever the hell you call yourself out on da street, how much do you get for your wellfare check? How much of MY money do you collect every month?

You seem to be so much in support of wellfare that I can only conclude you get a nice fat gubment check every month. You support slave reperations too don't you? How much of the $60,000 I earn a year working hard at my job do you think your entitled too?

I don't have time for complainers. All you do is whine about how much of your money is taken away by the government. If you don't like it, then move to another country that has no taxes. Your other option is to run for public office and change this so called injustice. If it were up to me I would take half of your salary to buy some rims for my Escalade  :rofl :rofl. Then whatever was left I would buy lots and lots of drugs. Happy? You're just a complainer.
