probably safer from ground fire at 10feet than at 100feet.

I don't play the game for kills, I play for a fun fight.  Vulching is not a fun fight.

Oh man ....did the Jug have its wheels down during this attack? hehehe Ive read those guys would get realy low sometimes.Pilots comeing back with parts of tree's, telephone poles, wires you name it..wraped around theyre aircraft. If I recall correctly Gabreski went down only because his prop struck the ground during a strafing attack.I guess when ya get something in your sites it can be a hard thing to pull off until the job is done.

Are the gun cameras zoomed in at all?Wether it is or not he got down there!!Thanks for posting the pictures.

That question occurred to me too.

From what I've read there's a decent chance this is the case.  Reading about the 354th BG in the pacific who performed lots of low level attacks against airfields there are several cases where a bomber would have to pull up to avoid colliding with someone else in there flight and from the anicdotal evidence it seems the immediately became targets and were singled out by the ground gunners and got hammered pretty good.

Three sequential frames from the gun camera of a P-47 as it strafes a 190 as it taxis on its own airfield. Could the Jug get any lower or closer? I doubt it. The exact location is unknown, other than it was in Germany. I have a copy of the entire film. Was quite interesting.

Good stuff, I wonder what went through that 190 pilot's mind at that time. Probably something like "oh chit, I'm screwed!'

I have dvd-box "Warbirds of WW2". There is story how allied flew so low that one pilot draws german soldiers head by his wing and brain pieces were spreaded all over his wing :O

On the history chnl or Military chnl I seen a story were a p51 was chasing a 190 or 109,cant remember, but the German plane was hit and the pilot bailed, but the were so close to the ground he hit b4 his chute opened and acually bounced back up and over the 51's wing! :O  :salute

Same here.  If possible, could you please Widewing.  Such a great find :salute

Fortunately, you can find that 3 second bit of gun camera footage on a commercial DVD.

There are some absolutely marvelous WWII documentaries on this DVD. I highly recommend it.
