No its unacceptable and its all your fault.  :D

The private school I went to had no nuns in it. Of course I know why you think thats the only form of private schooling available.
No I don't think that is the only form of private schooling..I am quite aware that there are others...church an non church related...so the private school you attended ...the teaching staff...and board of ed...they were liberal flamers...or more than likely ..rather conservative...but again ..I will try to return it to the actual post and not respond only to the knee jerk reactions of some fairly narrow minded thinking...
Why is 50% proficiency acceptable?
and ... what types of private schools are bringing that efficiency rating down..because of the private schools in the area I live in..I would guess 60 to 75% of the high school graduates go on to further education..college.. trade school.. etc..  so that chart leaves me suspect to the accuracy.

I don't think it is acceptable, it's just better than the alternative. Kinda like the choice between Obama and McCain.....   :devil

I see what you are saying as far as spending money for private schools when their proficiency scores are less than 50%. However, the alternative is even worse. My children have a better chance in a private school than they do in a public one. Is it worth the money? Well, that's up to each of us to decide for our own kids. :)
Elfie, the averages aren't representative of suburban and rural schools.  You need to look at each individual school when you are deciding where to live, or where to send your children.  The urban scores will bring down the national average every time.  I was at a suburban school teaching science for 6 years, and we had scores around 85-90% and attained a level 5 rating(highest in the rating).  With 30% black and hispanic(all due respect score lower statistically).  We had an exceptional principal and a great staff and it worked the way public schools were meant to work.  Alas, many like to blame the teachers for all the problems in education, but I know different.  Where I work now, we deal with extremely poor children being raised in the "hood" and it is an uphill battle everyday.  If I didn't completely enjoy my job, I'd most certainly go into something that paid more and had less headaches. :aok

Don't disagree, but as I stated before -" so that chart leaves me suspect to the accuracy."--

And parental involvement is a major factor..I would gamble to say the deciding factor...

I agree that parental involvement is a major factor. To many parents just don't care enough to spend time with their kids and helping them learn. If the parents don't help to build a desire to learn in their children at an early age, those kids are going to have a tough time in school.

I am afraid our society has gone way beyond parental involvement in the majority of class situations (and I dont mean school).

I was referring to the nations best military boarding schools and academies which I believe perform much better and my question was to the efficacy of those systems compared to public schooling. I daresay I believe the performance figures would be 3:1 in favor of the military systems and thats with very little parental involvement (debunking your excuse for poor performance).

So in a military academy -you are trying to say- there is no authoritative figure guiding the students in a proper direction?

twentyfoe.. I have no idea if you are trolling about this "jonas brothers" thing or not... I don't know much about any of that type of music and am not a big music guy in any case but..

If it is like your pretending to love the second amendment trolls.. anyone with any appreciation for music would be able to see right through your troll..   just as I seen right through your short lived and ill concieved second amendment trolls..

you just are not very clever or bright it would seem.

maybe when you get older but.. you show little promise...  no real natural ability but then what do I know?   I could never figure why people thought jon "make a funny face" stewart had an enduring talent..  I figured.. seen him once..  seen everything about him.

Then there is reality shows and contests... I got nothing when trying to figure out why they are popular.

Interesting... where does it say I received a public education

I was taught never to bellybutton -u - me

I am fairly certain that is taught in a military academy...
If you went to one... did you pay attention or always jump to conclusions?
In a military academy - the parents have passed over the parental responsibilities to the school....teaching staff.. administrators..etc..
And those people take on that responsibility, and hopefully very seriously,
I am quite sure that if you didn't do your work, there is some form of punishment, loss of "perks".. maybe some extra work... and if not done, the consequences are loss of privileges... a parental role ..
Something that is highly lacking in public education, and a lot of private schools.

There seems to be more Palin bashing threads every day. There are a lot of comparisons between the Governor and Senator Obama.
Is Sarah Palin running for president?

From the day she was picked to be Senator McCain's running mate, there has been an almost jihaddist fervor to discredit Governor Palin in any way possible. It appears that Palin has strong appeal with the voting public (as evidenced by most polling data) and Senator Obama is no longer the star of the election. I think it's fair to say the democrats are afraid of her popularity eclipsing some of the "rock star" shine that Obama has. So the liberals in here are spewing vitriolic threads like they're on an assembly line. The party that preaches tolerance seems to have none for anyone with an opposing viewpoint. None of this is going to change anyone's mind. The debates will help undecided voters make up their minds. You should worry more about John McCain. All this crying over the opposing V.P. candidate makes you look silly.

There is nothing silly about exposing truth about someone, when many swallow many half-truths about her as pure fact, in her own words. Exposing lies is a part helping people choose the right people.

I TOTALLY agree, Paline is not the one int he hot seat. McCain is. BUT I have had people tell me they are voting for McCain because of Pailine alone. Probably not the brightest people I ever ran into. Nor is voting for her out of spite, that's an injustice to the country to vote for anyone just because of party-line or out of spite. If she wasn't lying about herself she'd be golden, unfortunately she's lying about herself on MANY levels.

Palin's under a microscope while Obama's worshipers give him a free pass. Not very surprising to us non liberals.

What this country is dealing with is the indoctrination of our youth into the liberal mindset. The liberals in this country are worse (more socialist) then Nazi Germany under Hitler more socialist then Japan of the same time more socialist then North Korea of the 50s and more socialist then North Vietnam in the 60s. Your messiah is a marxist and he will (if he makes it into office) destroy the America you know. Our schools have been infiltrated with liberals since the 60s and children of today are consumed with the liberal mindset because that is what they are exposed to throughout their days at school. 80-90 percent of the newspapers teachers and unions are socialist now.

Liberals are so successful with their scheme of indoctrination that their mantra of 'political correctness' has taken over all discourse in America.

And now I am considering that our dear SkyRock is consumed with that same indoctrination. Its alright though SR. The brainwashing can be reversed as soon as you grow up and realize you are the patsy of a political movement designed to destroy the enemy of mother Russia.  :aok

Wow, when did the USA declare war on liberals?

And another, while you're accusing others of being "indoctrinated" into liberal thinking you really only look to have been "indoctrinated" by conservatives.  You sir have no credibility with this type of argument.  Simple logic.

The liberals have declared war on the American way of life. Increasing socialism, gun control, a million unborn babies murdered every year, these are  hallmarks of the modern liberal movement. Yes, there is a war being waged.
