Those Tricky Takeoff's

I have now been working on the 109 takeoff since the first day out. I just cannot keep control once the tail comes up. No matter what I do, the Starboard wing hits the tarmac and I veer off the runway. Perhaps it is time to change my stick, but I do wonder how anyone who is really new (12 months at WB) will feel about it. I have tried everything, except a new stick. Are people trimming neutral? What airspeed are you pushing the nose down at?

Help.

Easiest way Ive found is to give her the gas and hang on for dear life.

If im still throttling up  when the tail comes up I flip onto a wing.

You have rudder controls?

I will have to agree that the 109 (especially) is hard to take off in. The Spit is little better, the 51 and LA-5 are just plumb easy... ASSUMING of course you are using rudder pedals.
It is an extra expense, no argument there, and not all those who fly this sim are going to want to invest in those, BUT... (big but here) if you really want to be effective on take offs you will want them. Not to speak of ACM being easier too...
There is a considerable amount of literature on how the pilots back then "danced" on the pedals. It works the same here, you need to add right rudder and when you see it's too much you get "off" of it some, then on again, etc. Essentially "dancing" on the pedals. It does work but I had to practice for a full two days primarily on take off and landings just to get it right and I still don't get it right all the time. But it is much easier now.
Slowly, not too slowly, advancing the throttle and "feeling" the pressure you need to apply to counteract torque, getting the tail up smoothly, are the keys to succesfull take offs in the 109 and the Spit.

Hope this helps :-)

Hola,

Well sorry to say that I do have pedals :-\

Did have success today, by forcing the stick all the ways forward and dancing. I think one problem, is to fully release the pedals. Otherwise the rudder goes kinda neutral, I noticed this today looking out the back while rolling, hey if you want a blast, try rolling looking backwards. Damn silly, but I did notice the rudder not being effective and I repositioned myself to my pedals, this allows me to get right off of them, making them more effective.

Well nearly 2 years in WB and a Zillion take offs:-) I die alot.  I cant get the 109 up! The Spit only sorta kinda.  I consider this a major issue and I hope Pyro does.  I don't think all the sticks pedals and throttles in the world could make these takeoffs fun.  Sheesh!!  Course if you need to sell mamma on it:-)  Bring her in and see if she can take off and waalaah new equipment!

Actually I find takeoffs a blast, gotta pay attention all the way.

Wait till we get crosswinds!
