I see wgat you are getting at though. And I have to chuckle cause I love catching a picker up high and driving him low into the cauldron of hell below :)

Well, there's another thing I don't understand. Say two P-51s or suchlike are rather high. Say one starts to get the advantage of the other. Often enough, the one who feels he is loosing the advantage will dive to the deck and make himself a target for the phenomenon I'm talking about. What, they think they have a better chance fighting 10 Spits and N1Ks on the deck than one bandit up high?  :huh

I dont know...hard to say what makes some people tick. Its like a con I see being chased by 5 friends at 3.5 away. Im cruising past and he comes at me firing the whole time, with 5 on his 6. Rather than fight it out or run another way, hes bent on trying for a cheesy kill.

As far as what the high 51 pilot is thinking diving down into it...maybe he'll feel better if one of the low spits kills him, to deny the guy that bested him upstairs the kill. Who knows.

I think when someone does that, I think that its rude. Unless its already a bad advantage in either side, I would rather die by the guy that just out fought me. I would rather get the kill on someone that I foght the pick, to wind up, "Oh, I thought you needed help." one of those things. And the best ones are the ones that wait for you to get into the fight with the other person, then decides to get the kill.

I find that a lot lately, actually.
Yesterday there was a 262 buzzing around low. I was low in a Typh, so I decided to climb away from the low 262 and gain some ground on his RTB. I climbed to 7K as I was listening to the range chatter about how there were 2 low 262s flying around. I saw them cruising on the deck headed for home, and I hovered over them as I started a dive with a lot of lead on them. Once on the deck, I was 600 off of the guy. He then pulled up to try and out vert me. I ended up getting about 800 off of him when a picking tard in a pony dove from about 15K to "clear my six" as I was saddling up for the kill.

Im in a fight on the deck, could be against a guy who wanted to fight, regardless what he was flying, a picker comes along and kills one of us. Depending whether he was friendly of not. And most times its either a typh,p51,190D9. Im not so mad I died, as I often do 2 on 1s and die, but its how the guy whent about it. Hop in the fight..thats fine, but dont snipe at the guy and steal the fruits of anothers labor.
