So if a kid wore a t-shirt saying 'Allah is GREAT, Jesus sucks' it would be OK?

This just in: Obama is not really a god. That`s ears, not a halo.
Democracy is two wolves deciding on what to eat. Freedom is a well armed sheep protesting the vote.

Schools should have uniforms and separate schools as to male schools and female schools.
Hours should be from 7am to 7pm from Monday and throughout Saturday.
Discipline needs to be tightened up and more respect given to teachers.
This is education of our young. Not a walk in a Mall.

For those of you that think this is outlandish...Hey it's worked in Asia for many Years.
I wonder why we are called "Lazy Americans".

Point- Counterpoint?

Counterpoint is...Money. For longer hours teaching, food, uniforms, etc. One thing that hinders' any kind of social program in this country, IMO.

How much does it cost to keep a kid in the latest fashion trend compared to a uniform?

Mac, the other night on TV there was a guy, from NYC iirc, saying the same.

Yeppers... school is a "Fashion" program...not an "Education" program.

Ohhh and when I was a kid I took my lunch to school...in a paper bag.

Schooling doesn't have to be 12 hrs like AWMAC described.  6-8 hrs should be devoted for classroom instruction,  but the following activities should be required/standard...

+2 hrs required club activities
+2 hrs required to join private Cram Schools (tutoring services) to practice for SAT/ACT

The kid seems way more informed than a lot on these boards.
Imagine that............a father teaching a kid what he believes in.
There should be a law...............and probably will be if the commie leaning, big eared yapster is elected.
Maybe a while spent in one of YoMomaBama`s reeducation camps would do the trick.

Every man has a God given right to teach his children his own personal values.  On that point, I think we agree. I don't even disagree with message.

But this case smacks of exploitation of the young to send the world a personal message.  This is no different than the two "Prussian Blue" girls being exploited by their parents to send pro Nazi messages.

The message is irrelevant.  It's the way it's being sent that's shameful.
Do not attribute to malice what can be easily explained by incompetence, fear, ignorance or stupidity, because there are millions more garden variety idiots walking around in the world than there are blackhearted Machiavellis.

The main expense would be the 12-hour day that Mac proposed. You'd have teachers' going into overtime pay, for sure. Uniforms, which most likely would be cheaper, wouldn't nearly offset the cost of the O/T. And over that long of a day, the school board would probably mandate some kind of mandatory 2nd meal program.

Here in California, there are School districts' laying off personnel with the existing program. They can't even scare up enough money as it is.

No want wants to pay teachers what they're worth as it is, let alone a 12-hour work day.
