I am reformed
« on: September 26, 2008, 10:08:50 PM »
Since learning how to drive a tank  (I still suck), I've learned first hand how frustrating it is to have a good tank fight intruded on by ground attack aircraft, whether or not they are friendly or enemy.  Let's not even worry about the people who have to immediately up an Il-2 or A-20 when you kill them in their M4...  Today I watched a countryman drop about 6k of bombs from his Lancstukas on one panzer. :huh  I was naive enough to suggest that maybe that's not the best way to encourage him to come back. :P

I know some will say "hey, that's war."  But remember that in most cases the person in the airplane takes on no risk when they drop a bomb  on a tank.  It is a totally one-sided engagement.  Yes, gv busting has its place, but leave the fun tank battles alone.

Anyway, my apologies for any good gv fights that I've messed up with my 190F-8.  I will use more discretion with it to break up genuine base capture attempts, good old hangar busting, and ordinance porking, but I will try to leave simple gv fights alone! :salute

-----------------------------------

Every map should have a tank town where the v-bases cannot be captured, and there's 30k foot mountains around it to prevent aircraft from intruding.  Wasn't the trinity map like that?

I don't think your F8 is a huge disruption. Well.... when compared to lancastukas anyway. :D

Consider this, if your going to GV and not want to be bombed - try porking ords before you go GV'ing.
Yes I do this, and have I been bombed recently? nope. Some whine when they take off from capped airfields, so try this for a chance - take off from the
next airfield and climb out so you can safely enter a field with your gears up. Now try this in a GV - don't want to be bombed? pork the ords.

Oh and for Stodd - if the planes are coming from a CV, then sink the CV and they cant up period :)

Yep its always the tards you kill 20 times that do that. Tomcat21 and hs squad good example of that.

I don't get why you even typed that, you know it's stupid.

Good idea.  It's workable when there's only one enemy airfield nearby, but even then the ords only stay down for a few minutes.  Moreover, with the new 37mm spears of death on the Il-2, they don't need ords to be up to ruin a good gv fight.

The thing the frustrates me when I'm in a GV battle or killing GVs in my IL-2 or B-25 are those in fighter aircraft strafing tanks with MG and small cannon fire. I just don't get it. They make one or two runs that do no damage just to take the kill away from the person who put the work in.

If Wirbles/Osties are mixed up in the tanks, it's actually pretty hard to dive bomb tanks w/o dying.  At times I'll find myself fully loaded flying around a GV fight, watching the Wirbles and deciding to bug off.  IMHO, it's a realistic part of WWII... which I know no one will want to hear... but that's what makes taking an enemy base w/ GV's w/o air support is so difficult!  I think it just encourages team play! :aok

Ah yeah I notice that alot, most the time roughly 85% its new guys in a P-51 or spitfire strafing a tank. Just give them 20 seconds to fly around he will generally slam into a tree or the tank in 3-4 turns or less.

Wirbels are a threat to me when I make rocket attacks, but with a 500kg bomb all you need is a 500kg bomb and they are no threat.

I can debate this. MG fire can destroy enemy tanks. As the 84th FS Co i train my pilot's how to effectively kill panzers, M4s with our P47's 8x50 cal guns. Once our ordnance are expended we proceed to strafe down enemy tank's weak points with our guns and we have had success. I'll be glad to film a sortie which proves tanks can be destroyed by concentrated MG/Cannon fire.

I've been tracked by strafing fighters after they make about 6-8 passes, but never destroyed.  Are you not describing these targets towering out after you've tracked them?

I've been having great fun strafing tanks with the new Il2 37MMs, but they seriously need to be perked. Just too easy to maul tanks, especially since the Il2 just shrugs off minor pings from WWs.

I will up an Il-2 when someone drops the VH at the base I am gv'ing from. Did it the other night while someone was trying to take said base for about two hours.

You may be able to get a mobility kill by taking their tracks out but in this game that really doesn't count as a kill. They can still turn if they need to and shot back. Until I see them blow up or their turret fly into the air they are still alive. I highly doubt you can kill a tank with just guns only, and if you can things need to be recoded.
