Why Aces High?
« on: September 30, 2008, 03:45:00 AM »
Hi everyone -- first post here.  I used to play Warbirds way back in the mid 90's and had a blast.  There were lots of people in the air, even later in the evening,  big furballs were not uncommon and there were many really skilled pilots.  So I went over there and checked their site and it said there were only 35 players online.  Big disappointment.  Granted, it's 10:15PM here in Hawaii so that makes it 1:15AM Pacific and 4:15AM Eastern, but still, I remember way more people online than that, even this late at night.  So what happened?

Looks like you can't see how many people are on AH unless you install the game, right?  I don't see any arena stats on the site.

I was wondering:  Of the other WW2 multiplayer flight sims, why do you choose AH?  Did you try any of the others?  How many people are online when I'd be flying (midnight - 3AM PST)?  Any good furballs?  Is everyone flying in squads or is it mostly a free-for-all?

I was just wondering if it's going to be worthwhile to get back into things, if it will be as fun as it used to be, if I should get another CH Fighterstick (I see they still make 'em, looks like they haven't changed much in at least 12 years).

Thanks gentlemen!   :salute

Welcome.

AH is great, just download the free trial and give it a go :p.  US prime time there are regularly 200+ people in each late war arena.  Currently there are only 75 people on in the busiest arena.

Good luck.

There's a lot of European, Scandinavian, New Zealand and Australian players on here also. It's true it's always busier US time but you'll generally find a pretty good crowd on at any time. Try the free 2 week trial out, see what you think, you should a least get a feel for how things work. :)

Why Aces High?
Aces High is a virtual representation of the very real struggle between the three countries of Dweeb, a world in a parallel universe who were duped by dodgy arms dealers who brought up big at the end of WWII and consequently these guys have all got the same equipment.
The fate of the battle lies in the ongoing struggle between the unwashed Knight hordes, alien Rook alt monkeys and the Noble Bishops.

Typo.  That should be Noobie Bishops.   :D

 :rofl SD67, and  :salute tonnes.

I tryed warbirds for about 15 minutes and it was just too cheezy looking for my taste and there wasn't many people on either.
Yeah we have alot of squads, and alot of free for all too. With 4 main arenas and 3 or 4 special events arenas you can always find something to do. There's so many things to do in AH2 that i'm never bored.
With good graphics, regular game updates, knowledgable staff, trainers and always expanding plane and GV selections.
Then add the fact that the AH2 community is like a family. Awesome group of players here. They're quick to put you in your place if you need it and are quick to help you out at the same time.
IMHO HTC has the best game out there. So download the game and see what you've been missing man! :salute

Why do I find myself playing this 5x a week??  It's fun i guess.  Hard to explain, you just have to see for yourself.

I have a Passion to fly, and I love the time when aircraft were just breaking 400mph, required skills like keen eyes,
good physical endurance and a natural fighter pilots aggressiveness. I mean honestly by today's standards - firing a missile
BVR over 20 miles a away today is not what I considered "classic" dog fighting.

Modified:

Why I love the game is fact there is a lot you can do, Like tanks? you can find a good GV battle somewhere, like bombers? fly some authentic bombers
and defend yourself from fighters, if your a dog fighter find yourself a furball, a base taker you go with a squad that specializes in NOE Raids.
There are many ways to keep yourself busy and enjoyment by playing, and I do that every day  :salute

Guys my age can remember first seeing PacMan games in Taverns, or "Pong", "Asteroids", "Space Invaders", and there was this submarine game I was really good at tho I forgot the name. You could only play these electronic games in Taverns or bowling alleys cause they were huge and expensive, "just as well cause I was always in Taverns anyways". This was even before PCs came out, or Apples, and such a concept of actually playing games on your own PC didn't even exist. I remember seeing my first Beta video player and just being stunned that technology was coming that would allow folks to watch Hollywood movies on their home TVs.

I never even saw a PC , or PC game, until the mid '80s. My buddy had some golf game we'd spend hours playing. I dont remember when the first on-line game came out. AH is the first I ever played.

But looking back then to now its pretty astounding such technology exists that allows a person to play an on-line combat sim in real time against other players all over the world.
