109 vs the spit art question for Superfly :)
« on: January 25, 2000, 07:58:00 AM »
Hi there.

Ill make this quick, how come the bf109 cockpit has better "visability" then the spit with its "bubble" canopy? All pictures ive seen of the 109 indicates that the cockpits are way more "crampted" up then lets say the spit ones. . .

Didn't NATEDOG do the 109 art?

Anyway, the cockpit is miles too wide.

Actually, Natedog is one step ahead of you.  He's now presently reworking the 109 cockpits to make it more cramped.

All that being said, I still find the cockpit framework too obstructive in the Spit.

Superfly, I know you've probably sat in and photoed Cavanaugh's. I've done the same to a Spit Tiger DeStafani was rebuilding and a IX that was at Oshkosh a few years ago.

I still think you have the frames a bit too wide <G>.

Don't think "wide" will matter much in the G10 and G6. No side frames. The rear view could be another story. Head position can be set so you are almost out of the cockpit looking back. Course the same thing can be done for the other planes. Even the F4U has ok rear vision if you use this "trick"

see ya on line

Can't you guys just move your head and save head position?
Much easier to see around then in any plane.. even so horrible 6 view of brand W's F4u is history.

I've doen that for all aircraft Fishu.
I do not have a problem with any 6 view.

Ah, I forgot to mention that I am reworking some of the Spit cockpit too.  It's also too wide, but I'm pretty sure the armor glass is at the right thickness.  Pyro and I measured it several times.

Superfly,

If it helps, I was referring to the thickness of the metal frames that hold the glass.

Particularly in the 12 view, the frame around the center glass sees "wide" or "thick" in the dimension of the metal. It blocks more of the forward view than I recall.

Of course, this has a lot to do with head position (angle of the eye line to the frame piece) and I sit tall in that cockpit. So, I could easily have seen it from a much different angle than you did.

Did anyone forget to mention that this Spitfire doesn't yet outturn zekes or outrun runstangs..?
Oh.. and most of those Bf109s runs faster than spits, serious glitch!

Did I forget to mention some another serious glitch?

...lets remember that spitfire wasn't 110% super plane.

Fish, may I suggest a bit of lovely little Stilton blue with that?

Or perhaps some sharp Cheddar?
