Now before I go any further, I just have to know if he is hurt (no smoke no parts came off, and my connect woes are well-known). I ask if his B26 is hurt, he replies "What B26? I haven't flown a bomber in days!". I ask him where he is. Turns out he was 4 sectors away when he got the kill!
Kieren;
I had and even more weird one happen to me last Saturday. Here is my story and I am sticking to it!

I was in a P-38 and I jumped a B-17 that was being escorted by a 109. Immediately the 109 went HO to drive me off. I had tons of smash so I slipped on past and attacked the B-17.
I made my second pass on the B-17 and had not knocked it down yet. Then I noticed that the 109 had gotten on to my six. The range was about d1.3 and I figured it was time deal with the 109 and stop worrying about the B-17. When suddenly the 109 blew up.
So I extended and went vertical over the B-17 to make another pass on it. I made my guns pass and then I dove under trying to extend. After 3 passes on the B-17 it appears to be only smoking from one engine.
Then I noticed that the B-17 was shooting at me from its chin gun. The range was about d450. I made a hard break and dove, but I am not losing this B-17. He eventually gets me.

Afterward on a private channel, I ask the 109 driver, "What happened?". I wondered why he just blew up for no reason. He told me that I shot him down on my second pass and caused him to blow up. Well this really confused me, because I didn't think I even hit the 109 nor made two passes at it.
I told him that I noticed his 109 blowing up with it on my six and I did not shoot at him. Then he told me that he was flying the B-17 and another guy was flying the 109. Sheesh!

The system reported that I shot down the 109 / B-17 and that the B-17 / 109 shot me down. Talk about confusion in identities.
I have no clue what really happened.
