Palm Springs has a nice air museum with lots of WWII planes in flyable condition.  When I was there they started one up right on the museum grounds (can't remember, might have been a TigerCat).   It kind of surprised me as we were standing right next to it- thought insurance wouldn't let them do that.  The museum is right connected to the airport runway and they have demo flights as shown in their demo flight video.

Palm Springs is easily reachable by car, plane (from LAX), and Amtrak.  Plus, if you get bored, there's an aerial tramway to the mountain top (http://www.pstramway.com/).  However, it is Southern California and biases against Bay area and especially against Oregon and Washington folks.  Sacramento is more centrally located.  Don't pick Bakersfield though, that's a pit ;)   (Trust me, I've been there many many times.)

We had a mini con in California a few years back. This would not be the first. Some that were around back then might remember. It was held in the Bay area near Fremont. Maybe a 15 or so attended. We had a good time with a couple WWII pilots speaking. Great stuff. If I recall we also went to the Salinas air show that weekend too. I can't remember all who attended, but a few were TeeeRex, Vaderr, Maddog, Makarov9, Puke, and I think Funkedup who set it up. Just can't recall for sure.

I agree the Bay Area would be more $. I too think we would be better in the Central Valley. Sacramento or Fresno would work well.

would be nice to have a con in ca, but it would be nice to have it within a drivable distance, since of all things, i afraid of flying  :rofl.  somewhere in central or southern ca would be nice.

Wow, I was expecting a light response, but nothing this positive. Roc I would help in the planning phases, do you think we should start the initial planning on this gentleman?

Just south od Santa Cruz here. I'm in for anywhere in central or northern ca.

My office is in a resort. Unfortunatley the prices here are a bit up there even with my discount. For a double room, meeting room, breakfast and lunch the cost would be, ballpark here, about $275 for a group larger than 20 people. The sleeping rooms are considered condos so they have full kitchens and living rooms.

Like I said, pricey buy right on the coast, just a 5 minute walk down the path to the beach.

The Watsonville Fly In takes place Memorial weekend, great air show!

I think sacromento would be a good option, either that or san jose, the two lowest airfares into the area. any arguemnts against?

Sac has a Fry's Electronics. ;) (Although I bet San Jose has one too, or near by)
Coming from a rural area I enjoying going to those kinds of stores. :)
Sac would also be a lot cheaper than San Jose to stay at.

I think at the palm springs air museum would be neat. They have areas available for things just like this! <S> Hope this cali con gets off the ground!

I've got a membership with CalSAE which has a great connection with the travel industry.  I'll start to get an idea of group rates, internet capabilities, meeting room sizes and such.  Let's start there, see what evolves.

And yes, Sac has Fry's (Daddog, you should see the new one in Roseville  :O :O)

I'd be all for Sacramento... but I don't know what if any air museums or air shows they have going on there (something AH-relatedish so we don't resort to just farting and drinking beer the whole time (not that I object to such things, but we can do that at home or anywhere... even Bakersfield)).

The problem with palm springs is that ther is no real easy way into it except to drive a hour or so, though I must agree it would be an awesome place to have a meeting, plus its also with in a reasonable drive of march afb which also has an awesome muesem. But It would be expensive and hard to reach, maybe for a minicon or a get-together?

I'd be up for this.

I'm in OC so SoCal would work. But I also have customers in San Fran and Sac that I could...errrr.....find a reason to visit.

There's at least two other Lancers in the Sac area and one in Oregon that might be up for this.

Cheers.
