Hi
Pretty much all German tanks were painted a factory base coat of panzer yellow from about February 1943, crews were issued olive green and redbrown paste which they diluted with gasoline or water then sprayed onto the vehicles for a camouflage pattern. This could leave the vehicle almost totally yellow if sprayed lightly predominantly green and/or redbrown if a dense pattern was applied. Sometime in late 1944 the base coat was changed on several vehicles to only dark red rustproofing primer over which yellow and green would be applied, this was often the base coat on some ambush schemes. Then finally in spring 1945 the official base coat was changed to olive green. Anyway this whole paint thing was a mess after mid/late 1944 as there were many many variations and inconsitencies with factories using pretty much what was on hand.
However the paint scheme of our Panzers is absolutely correct and representative of what an average Panzer-IV H would have looked like during its service life, as is the ostwind- most pictures of this vehicle show it to have a yellow basecoat. BTW It must be made clear panzer yellow is in no way a desert scheme, it was the standard European color starting Feb. 1943 and lasting well into late 1944.
