Personally I never was upset that h2h was free. Actually tuck advantage of it when unemployed for 3 month. The bit I could NEVER understand was that it was FREE. I mean what the heck for? HTC is in business to make some hard cash for his toil....not give a load of WWII aircraft geeks a play room.
In retail we have lose leaders. Products sold for cost or a fraction under just to entice more shoppers who invariably buy other products...some of those products being price inflated to cove loss leader losses.
We also have spoilers. One chain advertises product X very cheaply but another chain virtually gives the same product away in an attempt to keep customers going to the other chain.
Both of these I couldn't see working for HTC. They may have enticed a few guys away from IL-2 or Microsoft's thingy but I'd wager less than a percent converted to the MA's as fully paid up subscribers.
I just hope he charges folk for the h2h's so's he gets more money and develop the game further with some of the proceeds.
