After the war, the 109's were built with Hispano-Suiza and later Rolls-Royce Merlins. These particularly smurfy-looking 109's were known as Buchons and are probably the most common airworthy version of the 109 today. They were built by Spain during the war under license but were mainly produced AFTER the war and were built till the late 50's and served till '65

And may I say they look hideous... nothing like the dedicated DB 109's.

Ok, I'll come clean, but it won't surprise you.  By "through" I meant up to and after the ending point of the war, but I admit it was a bit ambiguous.

It was prettier IMHO, but flying characteristics were not so good AFAIK.

They have a Buchon at the air zoo in kalamazoo, mi.  I saw it and thought cool a 109 then looking closer was thinking something wasn't right.  Read the sign and thought cool...learned something!
