For clarification, you mean it was produced in Germany and Spain, right?

After the war, the 109's were built with Hispano-Suiza and later Rolls-Royce Merlins. These particularly smurfy-looking 109's were known as Buchons and are probably the most common airworthy version of the 109 today. They were built by Spain during the war under license but were mainly produced AFTER the war and were built till the late 50's and served till '65

And may I say they look hideous... nothing like the dedicated DB 109's.

EDIT: spelling, etc.

Ok, I'll come clean, but it won't surprise you.  By "through" I meant up to and after the ending point of the war, but I admit it was a bit ambiguous.

Same with the "Avia", - post-war.
It was prettier IMHO, but flying characteristics were not so good AFAIK.
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

Sometimes I fly a SPIXTEEN when I need a selfesteem boost, just so that I can actually shoot something down and land more than one kill. Normally I fly a JUG and use all of its nine lives just trying not to die in the MA...Never get to land kills in a JUG.  :cry
This is a test

They have a Buchon at the air zoo in kalamazoo, mi.  I saw it and thought cool a 109 then looking closer was thinking something wasn't right.  Read the sign and thought cool...learned something!

How was the Buchon doing compared to a similarly DB powered 109 anyway?

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Adolf Galland's famous quote when asked by Goring what he needed:
"Give me a squadron of Spitfires!"
