Let us decide colour for camoflage HTC

Wouldn't it be simple to make AH so that you could change colours of camoflage patterns with some simple colour codes.
perhaps make some small setup and make it possible to change some of the camouflage colours, you shouldn't need to re-texture plane or something, you only should set some colour values and camo pattern would change its colour.

Like if you want to get rid of panzer's yellow colour, you can choose to replace it with some other colour, like green, then also give option to change those brown colours to darker brown for example.
..or then just make simple pre-sets for the camo colours, that would just change the colour with couple attributes and it would put that on the tank.

I wouldn't really mind to drive in a fall / desert camouflage during summer ;(
(same with planes)

What I would like to see is the ability to choose the skin of your aircraft/vehicle. Perhaps you could choose to have your P47 in Brazilian or US 56th colors. Or your Spitfire in UK, Canadian or US Eagle squadron markings. Or your BF109 in Finnish or German markings. Etc. Of course, this would mean more work for Natedog and Superfly.. but that's why there's two of them, right? 8^)

Don't want to play advocatus diavoli here, but I think the textures in AH are somewhat limited (e.g. LW planes have same texture on both wings, vehicles have textures that are identical inside and outside), for good reasons; that is support of older cards with limited texture memory.

Of course I'd like to see different, historical accurate 'skins' made an option to choose from

Aegis, I am probably a bit slow, so please explain to me how would you ever see your aircraft skin in the game? No one else will see it either because they would not have your textures on their machines or information on which one you use.
The only place you could see it is in the film viewer. Considering that most other games do not even have a film viewer, asking HTC to spend a minute for something like that would not be a smart move.

Fishu's suggestion has real merit - you would only select one of the standard few schemes (green/desert/winter/etc.).
That would not require much more bandwidths and custom individual skins. It would make a real difference in the gameplay - shooting white zero against the green background was much easier then shooting green P40.

If I understand the way modern video cards work the issue is that even if you chang just the pallet for the plane texture a different bitmap would have to be stored in memory for each different texture that was going to be rendered. ie. right now if you have 8 190s visible from your front end then you card is only keeping one set of texture in memory. If they all had slightly different textures (even just pallet changes) if would need to a set of textures for each plane.

This could quickly wipe out the available texture memory in older video cards and will absolutly kill their frame rate ('texture swapping' is very slow)

Ido think it is a nice idea, but for the time being the Aces High minimum system requirements should be low enough not to 'price out' some people.

I have an idea, pretty much along the lines of what Aegis said.

In the Hangar, you should have a couple of paint cans you can click on laying besides the plane yuo have chosen that would each function like buttons you would click on to choose a different paint scheme for the bird you have chosen.

Now here are the issues to address:

They would have to come from HTC, so we would all see the same skins and not only locally and in the film viewer. Everybody would have to have this art as part of a patch or something.

There should only be 2 (3 total) optional skins per plane, so people with low end cards could keep up.

Fan artists could submit skins to be added, but they would need to be reviewed by HTC and incorporated into a patch, as again everybody would need to have the same fileset.

There you go, now can I have my FAA Corsair II?  - Dark blue sucks!
