Correct me where I'm wrong. I see two sound tabs and no sound card listed. Here's my thinking, you have a sound card and you also have on-board sound. You need to disable the onboard sound if I am correct.

Oh, one more little thing. If you get the 3870 it comes with built in sound. You will need to disable that as well.

Not all, the HDMI interface can include sound so the models equipped with it may also come with audio capabilities. I hate HDCP myself, I'm gonna wait for the cheap Chinese cracked players come to market with zero restrictions.

with such a wide variety of Video cards on the market right now, I would go no lower than the following for minimal specs:

256 bit
GDDR3
512 meg
GPU Clock: 625/650
Memory Clock: 1050/1100

messing around with anything lower is just gonna make it where you are not experiencing everything you can....

by lower I mean:
128 bit
GDDR2
GPU: 600 or under
Memory: 950 or under

......granted my old AthlonXP2800 (factory clocked) with 1 gig PC3200 and an Ati X800XT AGP Slot 256 meg GDDR3 played very well with 1280x1024 screen res/using High Res Textures, with most every detailed maxed out and playing at frame rates 50 to 69 95% of the time......with preloading turned on......only being taxed during full launches in Scenarios and FSO's.......thru time it did start to get worse but I place that more on the CPU verses the video card.....

just a personal opinion here......

Gpu and memory clock has nothing to do with card and Tequilla for the price of a 512 meg card why would u suggest a 256 or better? Real decent 512 cards are available from $80-$150

where did I suggest a 256? I suggested for 256 bit instead of 128 bit...I suggested 512 meg & GDDR3 instead of GDDR2..why buy something that is 4 years or more old?  if you gonna buy a new card at least buy newer technology with it....

Just a copy of your reply. Why even "suggest" 256???

GPU and memory clock have everything to do with the card.

He said 256 bit, not meg.

Do you contibute to the brain surgery and rocket science forums too?
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

One good reason is this is NOT a high end board, two the FSB on this board is the bottleneck so a GTX280 would run but not perform as it should on THIS board.  He showed him economical ways of improvement with what to look for.  Also stating "Gpu and memory clock has nothing to do with card" thats like saying "air has nothing to do with breathing"  Educational note for DrD:  faster the GPU and Mem clock the faster the video card handles whats thrown at it to process and render (notice easy terms).

My thoughts on this upgrade is a 8800, 9800 or an ATI solution in the realm within your budget.  This is not a fast MB and is not a friendly OCer either, has driver issues from what I have found on the forums.  Toss a cost effective upgrade at it.
