Flat scissors / How tha hell u do them while looking back ?
« on: November 29, 2008, 03:25:22 AM »
Gents...

Last resort during defensive maneovers...
I use TrackIR and have no problems...(nauseated at first !)
Full CH product line.(Throttle/pedals/stick)

When trying to do the above defensive tactic, I'm supposed to watch bogey on my six throughout the twisting and turnin'  ?
I get all disoriented and can't figure out if my roll is getting out of wack....(need a "barf" bag :rofl)

Any tricks or suggestions from those who are successfull doing this !!!!

Don't try to watch him all the time, but every time you change direction, hold that turn till you see him follow.
Once he's committed, reverse back the other way. You can flick forward for that.

Kind of like bringing in a basketball, when they are actively guarding. Fake left, guard comes left, fake right, wait till he starts to come right then go left. Your using his delayed reaction time to get him out of phase.

The dangerous part is if he stays in the middle and doesn't commit, but just slows down to stay in reach.

Oh yes you can, and depending on who it is, for istance say your fighting Dedalos, Batfink, Texture, Widewing etc.....it is an absolute must. For every millisecond you do not have your eye on them, equals a chance for them to gain the advantage.  Now Ghosth is right in his description for the other 98% of the time.

If you know you have plenty of Alt ( say 1500 ft or higher ) then the ground doesn't come in to play. When flying under 1500 or 1000 ft then you need to worry about lawn darting.

I know you probably heard this before, but it takes alot of practice, practice, practice......and then practice some more.....

only fighting others who are just as experienced or better than you is going to help you in this category from here on!

I hope this helps ~S~

What TC said.. Idealy, the tool (the plane) is just an extension of you, it's as second nature as your legs and feet climbing stairs backwards while you read a book.

Learning to fly while looking any where BUT where you are going is one of those things you need to learn to progress towards the top players in this game. Flying just off the deck with a horde chasing you that you know you will out distance eventually is a good example. I'll spend 95% of the time looking out the back to break away from those "lob" shots while extending, only looking out the front to time when the next set of trees or hills will be a threat.

I pretty much agree on the practice part on this type of ACM. Looking backward, your movements are "reversed" on the stick while looking back. Takes some getting used to. Also, hit F9 key (if you are using a hat button) for the quick view. The 1/4 second it takes to swing 180° can be vital if not critical, which I found out the hard way a few times. :O

Thanks all !

Guess its gonna be TRAINING ARENA for a bit !
I need to confirm if my FLAT SCISSORS are done properly first.
Then once confirmed, doin' it while looking back   :furious :pray

When I'll be in the training arena, I would like to ride with a trainer.
While doing the proper "Flat Scissors", I can look back and see what actually happens with the sky/landscape and trees :rofl

CYA soon guys !

i have found a tiny trick that has proven itself to work on a moderate level with mixed results.

when evading in a flat scissor at ground level i don't use my direct back view, i always try to look back from the diagonal view that will also show me the ground. by looking back from this angle i can get a vague baring on the angle i am flying in relation to the ground giving me a general idea if i am angling towards the ground or away from it.

now obviously this has to be mentally compensated when flying in hilly areas and/or right at tree top level, but it still gives me a little more insight than i would have if looking straight back and flying blindly forward.

like i said its of moderate help and mixed results, but i have found that the more i practice it the more it seams to work.

so try it and if it works for you keep practicing, if it doesn't help don't use it.

good luck
