Here is What Your Score Means:
« on: December 03, 2008, 01:19:00 AM »

... It means you can cherry pick fighters in a furball with careful glee; it means you can camp an enemy spawn point at point blank range in your Firefly or up a Wirblewind and pluck out an aircraft or two as they dive at you on the Veh base; it means that you can point the 5in ack fun-guns towards the enemy bombers and pull the trigger; and it means you can do bomber milk runs in stukas w/ the 1800kg bomb (or B24's w/ the 4/5000lbs bombs) to cities just after the crack of dawn when there are 2 enemies on.

That is %95 of someone's rank.  The other %5 is actually reflecting of someone's talent.  If this average Joe like me can get a rank within the 90 "best" in the over all category, then anyone can do it.  Sure, some guys are good and I wont hesitate to give them their due, but over all....

Ranks means nothing except it shows that one knows how to work the score/rank angle.  That is it.

On the one hand, I agree there a lot of gaming is going on.

OTOH, do you honestly think just anyone could put up stats like say, Shawk or Steve do on their fighter score? (Without vulching a 2nd account.)?

I'm not any good, but even when I catch a score monkey alone they are dead meat.

sniipped for ignorance

The most unskilled category is definitely the bomber category I will agree with you there since you can just bomb strats with stuka nuke to beef all your percentages but ranking in the other three takes skill.  Overall Rank above 25 or so doesn't mean anything, but if you look into players in individual categories in the top 10, there is clear cut skill there. (Excluding bomber, although some very good bombers may be ranked high)

Lol, yeah I had to edit that, it was really pompous.  I just came off from dueling for like 5 hours so I guess my testosterone levels are a little out of whack haha.

I am always impressed to find some guy who ranks in the 500s who really knows how to fly. I never judge a person's ability by rank.

What I always wonder though is how a guy gets 10 to 15 kills per hour for the whole tour. A former wingie of mine who is a great pilot set out to see how many kills he could get per hour and ended up with about 6 kills per hour. He disregarded landings and took substantial risks as well.

Personally I set out the other day to rack up the kills. After 2 refuels I landed with one kill. It seems that the enemy I was fighting stayed at 22 to 30k the whole time. All 51s and tempests of course.  :lol Every now and then they would just risk it all and take a swipe at some one at 18k before climbing back to their perch.

This is what my "score" or "rank" mean to me -----> Nada, Nothing, Nowt, Niente - in other words, not a thing.

What makes this game for me is the people I get to interact with (and attempt to shoot down as often as possible)  :D (C'mon, I did say attempt  :D)

a successful killing run takes what? 15-20 minutes,  3 sorties per hour 5 kills per run no problem,  Get one really good sortie in the double figures then voila that will push it up to cater for any deaths or not so good runs.

No offence to your great pilot friend but 6 Kph means he isnt getting stuck in enough (on average 1 kill every 10 minutes!!!).  Of course this stat can be inflated by only going to vulch fests but you have to have the ability to read the map and seek out where the best fights are.  People who play "off peak" are fairly limited in this area.  Less players less fights less kills etc

Im mixed on the score thing. I really didnt care about the score overall, but what I do like to see is the Hit%'s Im finnally holding steady in the 9 area, but cant seem to break 10, maybe this month. Other then that, if your into base captures, your scores gonna go to crap.
Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.

Can I say that the average opposition is tougher at off peak hours?  Is this the experience shared by others?  Prime time seems to be filled with two-weekers, which really fattens that K/T stat.  Also, K/T is influenced by what you fly.  I seem to get 2 more kills per hour in a 190 than in a 109.

Get closer.  Do you shoot down bombers?  If you're not shooting down a bomber from time to time it should be very hard to get over 10.  Also, if you're doing base captures, set your sortie to "attack."  Then strafing ground targets won't hurt your gunnery %.

For my part, the silliest score category is Field Captures under Attack.

rank means squat, most of the time that is, I have killed many players who are in the top ranks, heck I remember killing one guy who was ranked 4, I belive I was ranked in the 3,000, which is where I am always in.

but I also know with out a doubt, some of the best players are ranked high.

so like ive said before I judge a players skill by, how he fights, in game, not by there score or rank.

and even if there skill is awesome if they are chumps, I treat them as such.

allthough I think I have come to feel most players who are really good, respect the game, have been around for awhile, treat most players with respect, and try to help others out, and are basicly good guys.

I think its those type players that make this game great , its the new Younger players that have no clue what respect even means, let alone give it to anyone. and these are the type of players that have dropped the class rating of AHers as a whole.

   that of course is IMHO

<S> to those who fly with respect and Honor.
