This time, I will be likely not get involved.

I fear this many 51s, without being chained to something like bomber escort, will turn into a horde fest. How are you going to handle it, Delta?

From what I've seen from alot of these pony drivers they'll run back to base at the first sign of trouble or dive straight to the deck into a nest of spits and LA7s. It'll be interesting to say the least.

I'm not sure 3 packs of 50 P51s will run into a whole lot of trouble. Even if 10 of them do, the other 40 will protect them...

Im hoping to find them at high altitude where the majority of them do not often go.

And that's it in a nut shell. Once they find the 51 is not the same bird at 25 or 30K they'll drop to 10k and be ripe for the picken. I strongly suggest you pony drivers practice at 25k or so with heavy fuel load for this fight. This won't be a easy mission. :salute

How would you suggest the mission
be managed to avoide the "horde-fest" phenomenon?

Ah, but they won't be able to this time, I'm assuming they'll be waaay out of range of the usual horde of 16's and lgays at 2-6k circling like vulchers hoping to feed of the scraps, As such they wil have to fight or die, I'm willing to bet there will be proxies a plenty as the ponies all compress in thier frantic attempts to escape to preserve thier score.

As a general rule, I don't do missions. I'm a renegade by nature, I guess. If the crowd is headed west, I'm going east. Nonetheless, I may just take up a P-51B and tag along hunting for high altitude Luftwobbles to abuse.

I ran clinics for high alt fighting. Above 25k the Luftwaffe hardware is out of its element, Up at 30k, it's worse. Much worse. 190A types are worthless against fighters. 109s are only somewhat better. P-51Ds are very good up high and P-51Bs are even more capable. A P-51B can do 443 mph at 27,500 feet.
