« on: December 18, 2008, 07:59:57 PM »
You asked for WWII structures in my area... this is the closest one to my appartment. 5mins away with bicycle. Guess it's function ;)

(No, that woman isn't the "structure" I'm talking about :P)

I see a small opening on the side there, is it the entrance to some sort of underground bunker system?  Are there any openings on the part we don't see?

Was there a tank turret on top of it?

Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

It looks like a support for something else, maybe a V2 prior to them being moved around by truck?

Tank obstacle? (although it seems a bit over constructed to be one)

The opening in the side has me a tad  :huh

No clue here

Bombproof bike stand.

 :rofl

It is indeed a one man bunker, a "Luftschutz-Splitterschutzzelle".

This bicycle way was formerly an industrial railroad track, the "Erzbahn", starting at the Rhein-Ruhr canal in Gelsenkirchen and transporting iron ore to the blast furnaces to the Bochumer Verein. That kind of small shelters, big enough only for a man (or maybe two), were built to provide cover for those men working on or at the track in case of an air raid. The two I found still standing have been placed at at railroad switches.

Some how I don't think railway company's today would take such good care of the employees.  :D
