I personally would not blame him for choosing number 2. The IL2 is barely maneuverable, doesn't accelerate well, doesn't climb worth a damn, and the only real firepower it has is in the nose with the cannons. Most IL2's I have come acrossed and even when I fly them are on the deck which leaves you almost no option except trying to turn with him. Anything else will end in him catching you and shooting your tail off.
Now 3 I think is a little lame and would not do that in those circumstances, If I am going to be shot down I would rather have it happen while trying not to.
That being said I would fight but that is because most times I like to fly against losing odds. One time I killed a KI84 and an F4U1D in a single sortie with an IL2. Yes they were very tardy and I am sure the F4U was unaware that I was there until the rounds flew over his canopy.
As a guess though I will take it that he bailed without even an attempt.
