Ex-Jazz.....what does that have to do with the OP???

MD13:
Thanks for your input.  I know for a fact I'm not the best pilot in this game, and I never will be.  But I DO know that I can hold my own.  All of this come not from training, but from having simple fights and stuff in the TA.  What I have learned is to watch out for these false trainers.  When the first thing he said is "anyone need training" a big red light flashed.  The usual "seasoned sticks" as snaphook called them will approach it a different way like, "Anyone need help, have questions?"  Thats why I suckered him into "training" me just to check him out.

A guy logs into the TA and immediately asks if anyone "needed any training."

Maybe Ghosth had a good Christmas Eve Lutefisk buzz going?  :D  :devil

My hope is that HTC re-opens the H2H sandbox ASAP in the hopes it may siphon off a few of hyper-active upstarts.

Speaking as a former CM, the public forums are not the place to be airing out dirty laundry.

All I can do is speak for myself, and IMHO yes, the CM's have a pretty thankless job that can really suck the fun of this game out of you.

BUT if you join the CM team to get yer back slapped and 'atta boys', you joined for the WRONG reason.  I am pretty darn sure Kanttori and Blauk did not make the wonderfull terrains that they made because they expected "something" from HTC.  They were giving us all some wonderfull maps, and untold hours of playing enjoyment for the community.

I once tried to join the AH Trainer Corps.  Looking back I am glad that I was never extended the offer.  Ghosth had me hang out in the TA for a few months helping out anyway I could.  I now know I didn't have the patients for that job.  (and at the time, Ghosth probably knew that as well)

I have no idea how Murdr et. all deal with it day in and day out, but I DO know I couldn't have dealt with it (long term).  Those couple months I spent an hour a day "helping" was a learning experience for me, and a gave me a glimpse of just how difficult a job our Trainer Corps have.  It also showed me that they are made of better "stuff" than I.

Kudos to you Aces High Trainer Corps.
<S>

Well said Lute. I've tried helping folks and well they get on my nerves. Thanks Aces High Trainer Corps. You do all of us a service.

Wmlute, I get lucky some days sir. <S> Grin

To everyone else, if you are doing any AH Job you better not go into it with the idea your going to get any kind of status, or money out of it. If you are, well AH doesn't need you. And your not doing yourself any favors.

I used to be a CM, sweat blood and bullets running big scenarios. Helped build FSO, etc. When I burned out I walked away. I did it to give back to AH, to help AH get its special events up and running. For several reasons that had nothing to do with getting anything back for me. And everything to do with making AH the best sim experience to be found.

All this is true for the Trainers Corps only times 10.

There are thousands of folks out there who would love to be a trainer. Right up until they are one.
At which point they'd burn out, melt down, or get so corrupted by power they'd have to be booted by HT.
Much like the CM Core tis a mostly thankless job, with hours and hours of effort expended and very little to show for it.

There is a reason out of all the people who fly and who have flown AH there are only 12 trainers.
Truly any sane person who understood what was going to be involved would never want the job.

As for those who help out in the TA on a regular basis we ask only a few basic things.

1 Treat everyone with respect.

2 Be absolutely sure your giving out the correct information.
Use the trainers site as a reference if you must. But if you really want to help, don't teach bad habits, or wrong info that we will have to fix later please. Also don't teach your opinons, or force your preferences onto him.

3 Defer to trainers if there is one in the arena.  Nothing puts me in a foul mood faster than some 3 month wannabe jumping into a conversation between me and the person I'm trying to help, filling him full of BS and wrong info.

Maybe the 'Right Stuff' trainers got tired after all this years.

Maybe You should finally learn to say a 'Good Job!' for the people, who are working fo the common good. A PM message on arena, give a what ever feedback on the closed forums or even give a public recognition for the 'Right Stuff' out there.

Who knows, maybe the RV8 is not actually leading this firm anymore.

Maybe...

Absolutely agree 100 times over, with ya Ghosth

I used to be a CM, sweat blood and bullets running big scenarios. Helped build FSO, etc. When I burned out I walked away. I did it to give back to AH, to help AH get its special events up and running. For several reasons that had nothing to do with getting anything back for me. And everything to do with making AH the best sim experience to be found.

All this is true for the Trainers Corps only times 10.

There are thousands of folks out there who would love to be a trainer.

I agree, and most times if they are wanting to be one, it is for mainly the wrong reasons to begin with, and is why they are never chosen

Right up until they are one.

If someone who has desired to help become a trainer, they soon if not eventually find out it will indeed drain you down,  sometimes even burn you out, although if you truely do it for the right reasons, your desire will never fade or faulter, or not for very long if it eventually does

At which point they'd burn out, melt down, or get so corrupted by power they'd have to be booted by HT.

Much like the CM Core tis a mostly thankless job, with hours and hours of effort expended and very little to show for it.

There in lys the thing, what you get to show from it is the enjoyment of the community, or the enjoyment when one of those you may have taught eventually "gets it" or the "light bulb suddenly clicks on" in their heads, and they end up giving you a fight worthy, or completely surpase you in their skills kick your hide in a cartoon air combat fight, and makes you grin and feel good inside, and know that you did your job right, and that their is another soul thankful and will soon be passing it or paying it forward!

There is a reason out of all the people who fly and who have flown AH there are only 12 trainers.
Truly any sane person who understood what was going to be involved would never want the job.

The Trainers, CM's, Terrain Makers, and any and all Volunteers are thankful for the players who have the desire to see and acknowledge that their is more to this community, game than just a place to spend time, there is History here in a continously being made basis, friendships being made on a continous basis, and at times become of like a second family........the game itself is just a place to meet, like a cafe, a civic center, and yes sometimes like a toughman competition..ROFL

I , personally, thank all individuals regardless if you are HTC Staff, HTC VOlunteer Staff, etc..or just a Aces High Member , who can see past needing any gratification, and sincerely and honestly help the other members with any type of contributions, all be it terrains, scenarios, guideince, Special Events, or teaching proper etiquette to new comers. TO help make this a better place for each of us

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all
