Some Pics.
« on: January 02, 2009, 04:12:05 AM »
I found some pictures that may be of interest to some of you that I thought I would share. Also if any one knows anything about them if you could let me know.  First off a Winter camo tiger no other info other than this pic.  Next this ju88 very similar to a skin Greebo did except for the back half of the plane.   Next is a p38 I don't know what model it is & it looks like it could have a desert camo paint job on it the picture is not that good a quality & I might be wrong on that.  The best I saved for last is these 190's in colour you can see there the cross on the fuselage is with a red back ground as well the red looks to continue on down the spine of the plane towards the tail. I don't know what model they are either.

the background on the 190's cross is Yellow my friend :)

P38 looks desert camo at first, but if you notice, you'll see green starting to rise up and be mixed in with it.

P39 looks desert camo at first, but if you notice, you'll see green starting to rise up and be mixed in with it.
Is it a coloured black & white photo on the 190's?

It doesn't look like it was originally black and white. But it's definitely yellow for the background of the german Cross.

Actually, the 38 looks to be in RAF cammo.  I'd guess by the markings that it was a Stateside training bird.  One of the group of Model 322s rejected by the British.

Wouldn't there be no exaust deal near the tail since the Brits took out the turbosuperchargers(called that right?)?

Rejected the turbos, but the exhaust still vents in the same place. Just like nearly all the P-38s still flying.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

The Ju88 most likely had the tail replaced due to damage. However, a photo like that doesn't say if the tail was repainted, or if it ever flew in combat like that (which I'd kind of doubt), or if it was an unarmed squadron "hack." You would need to find a lot more info about the photo in question before making a skin out of it.

I think this plane might be this one a captured aircraft. If you look on top of the left wing it looks as if the roundel is still there & would also explain the roundel that is painted over on the side, also the lighter colour of the engines match up some what. I have seen a few pictures of captured aircraft at a later date they try & repaint them back to their German roots.

The 38 is one of the RAF rejected birds and in stateside training markings as they were used for that by the USAAF.

I believe the Ju88 is an RAF captured bird that had the roundels on and then was repainted either postwar, or for a tour with oversized LW markings.  Swastika on the tail is way too big and it looks like the RAF Roundel is still showing underneath the added fuselage marking

The same P38/P322

Another P38/P322 also in training markings

I suspect the Ju 88 is the same 3./KG 54 aircraft I skinned. This aircraft B3+PL was used on anti shipping operations in the Med. Still in its wavy line water colour scheme, it was transferred to Northern Europe to participate in the Operation Steinbeck, Hitler's ill fated 1944 revenge Blitz on London. Over London on the night of April 18/19 AA fire knocked out the port engine and most of the instruments including the compass. The pilot Unteroffizer Brandt tried to reach Holland but ended up crash landing on an RAF base in Essex.
