Disabling other players skins
« on: January 06, 2009, 12:59:07 PM »
Ok I am going to whine here thanks to Lusche  :cry There is the ability to make a selection to "disable other players skins" in this game which for aircraft is of no relevance. There is however great relevance as it relates to GV's in that when this selection is made all enemy GV's appear in their default skin. In all of our current maps this will make you stand out like a sore thumb  :aok if you happen to be in a tiger or a panzer with the orangy/brownish camo pattern. Isn't the whole purpose of selecting GV camo to best blend into your terrain to avoid detection by the enemy? I mean nobody chooses their GV skin because "that was such an awsome panzer unit during the battle of Kursk". HiTech, Skuzzy, anybody....can this little ability to "game the game" be fixed as its obviously being exploited because it does make tigers and panzers so easy to spot. My apologys if most players weren't aware of this....so there you have it.  :furious

There is one effect that you failed to mention with disabling other players skins. It has a significant effect on your frame rate if you are running a lower end machine. So unless you want to buy me another chipset and motherboard so that I can play with all the bells and whistles running then I am going to continue to shut off other players skins as well as turn down all the other system resource sinks so that I can "Play" the game and not watch a slide show of it.

So there are other reasons that somebody would use this feature rather than being a "Hack" or "Cheat".

Seriously, you must be trolling or something. Seeing black helicopters around corners?

This facetious argument has been brought up time and time again by the same small group of people.

It's a NON issue.

The default skin is NOT tied to the terrain, nor should it be. Nor would 1 terrain ALL be the same color (fighting at 1 base would have different ground tiles than fighting at another base on the same map).

You're complaining over something as a possible excuse for why you keep getting killed, is the only thing I can think of, otherwise you would never bring the issue up.

It's NOT a conspiracy. It's NOT out to get you. The default skin is the only one you'd have without the time and efforts of the folks that make the "custom" skins. You might appreciate them more if you weren't allowed to have any for a while. The only (repeat: ONLY) reason the "disable skins" option is there is to ease system problems on slower/weaker PCs, and you need to be careful of the impact your blind blanket request would have to a LOT of AH players.

P.S. Just ask for GV icons. End of story.

AH can't stay in the past/cater to very lowend computers forever either.  That excuse is getting old what u stated.  You can build a very nice rig for less then 900.00 and a rig that will play this game with ease for around 500.00

Haven't gotten any in a while, huh?

The simple and compromising fix would be to make one of the darker Panzer/Tiger skins the default.

I cannot fathom how this would be hard to do, in any way.

Yes it can.. not the same "lowend" computers though, as what's being a lowend and what's being a highend computer is ever changing. There will always be players that have to tweak options to get some reasonable performance while playing. We have much more skins than in the past now, almost impossible to preload them all. Thus I (having a mid-range system) have disabled other player's skins because I don't like that minor stutter when AH is loading skins from my HD and I don't really notice (or care about) any skins at all in the air ;)

I don't think he meant the Terrain had much of anything significant to do with it. Just the option of Disabling the others Skins...

I'd just make sure you're hidden well enough, or forget that you stick out like a sore thumb. This really belongs in the wishlist.

that would be the easiest way to fix it i was thinking the same think... the panzer is a real problem..  just set the default skin to the green camo one....

Not to be argumentative here but I can tell you that for me and many others it would be very difficult to come up with $500-$900. That is more than a weeks income for me. The way things are now it woul dbe hard for me to come up with an extra $50 right now.

I do however agree that it might be a little easier and a little better solution to make the default skin darker, that is if they are going to change anything in regards to the OP request.
