Zero pilots. Any films?
« on: January 07, 2009, 11:17:42 AM »
I've settled on the Zero fighters as my mains for awhile. I'm looking for any films made by long time flyers showing useage and tactics. Or maybe a good write up?
Thanks,
Riceball.

I don't know of any long-time pilot that makes the Zeke his/her main ride.  My guess is that anyone who tried would end up frustrated from catching on fire all the time. ;)  Shinsengumi pilots mostly fly the Ki-84, N1K and Ki-61.

I do. Tan does it. Usually he scores several hundred kills in A6M5 per tour.

I fly it frequently in defense of the carriers, but since its so much slower than the main carrier rides, I don't usually do to well with all the runners in the arenas. Fly it a lot in the AvA when its available though. But no films that would be very helpful. Mostly quick one-on-ones or long fruitless chases of guys who refuse to engage.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

i'm not long time, but i think i have a few......i'm mostly furbaqlling in em though. if you think they may help, just tell me how to link em in here, and i'll try n get em up for ya.

it's agonizingly slow....for a fighter. but she'l turn on a dime, and give ya nine cents change. her guns are deadly within 200 yards, and will still do damage outside that. i've never shot any farther out than 400 with either zeek. at that distance, i'm just trying to get the bogie to make a mistake and turn, so i can catch him.
she climbs pretty nice, and i've had fights with my belly tank still hanging under the wings. she's good for base defense when the badguys have come down low, and are turing.
the a6m2 is the better turner of the two. it's also a bit slower than the a6m5b. i think the guns are the same, but the 5b carries a bit more ammo(i think).
she doesn't like high speed, and if you'rre chasing someone in a dive, you'll notice controls getting sluggish around 325 or so.
if you're in a furball, don't track a target so long that someone saddles up on ya. you'll easily shake anything short of another zeek, but you'll be lucky if you're not set on fire. it doesn't take much.
i never noticed torque to be too much problem at low speeds, and can turn her in either direction in that condition.
i can't think of anything else right now, besides the absolute most important piece of advice.

have fun in it remember they're free to replace.  :aok

The A6M2 is armed with two 7.7mm machine guns and two Type 99 Model 1 cannons, each with 60 rounds per gun.

The A6M5b is armed with one 7.7mm machine gun, one 13.2mm machine gun and two Type 99 Model 2 20mm cannons, each with 125 rounds per gun.

The Type 99 Model 2 has a significantly higher muzzle velocity than the Model 1.

a6m is just about all I fly unless squad doing something. probably does better in early and midwar arenas. don't worry about the fire deal. It is not painful at all.

Here is a ah2 film that turned out pretty good.
