It seems so ridiculous the whole gun-control slash, anti-gun control argument. I for one own guns, I have standard hunting rifles, nothing extraordinary or special, 22s,30/30s,shotgun.
I personally don't feel the need, "Though I do believe there are some individuals who might be truly be safer with a hand gun, based on living conditions or working conditions" to get an assault style weapon. "Assault Style" press the trigger and the mag is empty in a few seconds, yes I know any firearm can kill, but these ones are made for a specific purpose, to kill humans as quickly as possible, and for those crazy militia type, if you truly think and armed body of citizenry could actually stand up to our own government's military/police force, your just that, crazy end of story, we would get clobbered before anyone could finish the line, "Give me liberty or give me death"
Don't need to hunt a deer with that kind of weapon, or shoot a snake or rabid animal as for my needs for a gun. Nor would I feel comfortable with knowing that my next door neighbors "Who happen to be my crazy cousins" have one, now that being said, gun collectors and what not, that's fine, if that's your interest, more power to you, "I like coin collecting myself" to each there own, but the idea that someone in a insanely hypothetical situation of a armed shootout home invasion by a gun toting individual, is going to be combat ready within a few seconds of waking up, I.E. either Loading said gun, or unlocking gun safe, or just trying to find the damn thing in the middle of the night, 9 times out of ten, the bad guys gonna win, the dude or dudet, would probably be standing over you with the gun at your head by the time you knew anything was going on. Guess what I'm saying is, when its your time, its your time, and really no amount of weaponry is going to save anyone, though its a romantic notion, and perhaps a few cases in history might have turned out differently if the victim was armed, but its a big "if" though. Realistically the bad guys have got the upper hand, just cause most average everyday folks don't plan for a shootout at the O.K. Corral in their day, and if they do, well that is pretty sad.
Don't get me wrong, I like my hunting rifles, but they are nothing more than tools to me, they may or may not have sentimental value but they are not precious objects of obsession to me, just like having a favorite screwdriver or hammer.
I just think there should be a distinction in the law, between a slingshot and a cruise missile, both are by definition forms of "Arms" but doe's that mean I have a right to all forms of arms, my vote would be no, I'll stick with my plain and simple tools, and if gun-control, wanted to ban all weapons, I would join the protest against it, but I haven't seen that from the majority of legitimate case's made for weapons control issues. that most law enforcement officials support.
