Suggestion: "Hit info"
« on: November 28, 2001, 09:43:00 PM »
:)

I wonder if it is possible that we can get a 'Hit Info' when we are shot down, or manage to land a damaged plane on ground. I've heard of stories of people counting the holes, and even figuring out what kind of ammunition hit where..(such as those 100+ holes on Johnson's P-47  :D)...

and if this feature is available after one is shot down and returned to the tower, or if one lands the plane in AH(the point where the 'TOWER' button is activated), it could clear up a LOT of things like lag issues, rubber-bullet phenomenon, Hispano whines, .50 whines and etc etc.

There are many guesses floating around and none of them are confirmed, especially with things such as buff gunnery of gripes about .50 rounds. If we can get a detailed info, much like the way we can get a 'Score info', it would help very much.

For instance, I've been damaged heavily, my 190 engine has been clobbered, but heard only 1 ping. I am suspicious. I land my plane, bring up the 'Hit info' and it could say:

*Kweassa - Fw-190D9, landed succesfully

*Damage: Right Elevator, Engine Oil, Radiator, Engine, Main Fuel

*Total: 17 Rounds hit

   13 Rounds - M2(.50)
   4 Rounds - Hispano MkII(20mm)

 Detailed:

    7 Rounds hit on Fuselage - M2(.50)
4 Rounds hit on Right Elevator - M2(.50)
    2 Rounds hit on Engine - M2(.50)
1 Round hit on Engine Oil - Hispano MkII(20mm)
1 Round hit on Radiator - Hispano MkII(20mm)

 ..

and after seeing this I go "Hmm.. I heard only one ping.. but seems been hit 17 rounds actually.. looks like some hits to the fuselage triggered the fuel leak.. 2 rounds that directly hit the engine itself.. each 20mm knocked the oils and radiators, huh? Oh well..."  :D

 ..

The data for damage modelling just directly used and translated into info screen.. it wouldn't be too hard, would it? I really think this would be a helpful feature  :) Maybe people going around boasting, showing off their screenshots to the hit they have taken and survived.."Hey, My P-47 took 96 hits and survived!  :D"

 ...

 Any reply is much welcome

Would be interesting, no doubt about it.

Can you imagine the b*tching and whining about the damage model after that though?  :)

"Hey! 17 20mm Hispano rounds shouldn't knock out my ENGINE! The SuperZapper's engine could easily withstand 23 Hispano rounds! I read that in a "Flying Aces Comic Book Fact Section"!!"

Sure would make the BBS entertaining.

Actually that is an awesome idea, and shouldn't be impossible to implement.

That should put an end to the 1 ping mystery.

Could anyone from HTC comment on this please?

So long as they don't implement it in the way that is done in Fighter Ace. I hated seeing that someone hit me in the right aeileron and the rudder went out. Or someone hits you in the "fuselage" and your right wing falls off. It also clutters up the screen while in flight.

I might be OK with something like Ripley is suggesting as long as its post flight.

This would be a nice gimmick!

But what I really need is a reliable feedback  of the hits I create on the plane in my gunsight  :)

Most times it works fair, but then there are the moments when the con lit up like the famous christmas tree, but notting happens.

The other time I put a long burst on a con without flashes, smoke or debris and after a few seconds the plane make just poof.

I know it has something to do with netlag and microwarps. But when the target is close before my nose and I actually hit him and I get the kill, there should be a bit more feedback. (I dont ask for bloodstains on the windshield  :D )

Its not for the sensation, but I need it for my aim. Otherwise it is very hard to my judge my deflection.
