An Insight Into The World of Today
« on: January 29, 2009, 08:55:12 PM »
*NOTE: THIS ISN'T MEANT TO BE POLITICAL OR ANY OF THAT IN ANY WAY*

Just goes to show what today's society has evolved into.

Quote
HIGH SCHOOL -- 1957 vs. 2007

Scenario 1:

Jack goes quail hunting before school and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck's gun rack.

1957 - Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack's shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack.

2007 - School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.

Scenario 2:

Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.

1957 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.

2007 - Police called and SWAT team arrives -- they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged them with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it.

Scenario 3:

Jeffrey will not be still in class, he disrupts other students.

1957 - Jeffrey sent to the Principal's office and given a good paddling by the Principal. He then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.

2007 - Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD. The school gets extra money from the state because Jeffrey has a disability.

Scenario 4:

Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt.

1957 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman.

2007 - Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. The state psychologist is told by Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has an affair with the psychologist.

Scenario 5:

Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.

1957 - Mark shares his aspirin with the Principal out on the smoking dock.

2007 - The police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations. His car is then searched for drugs and weapons.

Scenario 6:

Pedro fails high school English.

1957 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college.
2007 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.

Scenario 7:

Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a red ant bed.

1957 - Ants die.

2007 - ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents -- and all siblings are removed from their home and all computers are confiscated. Johnny's dad is placed on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.

Scenario 8:

Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.

1957 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.

2007 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.
Thoughts on this?  My opinion is simply that we've become more me than we.  It's a shame, really.

Wasn't aware that the US = Roman Empire.  Guess I must have grown up in one of those "soft" schools...

It's absurd, we're not going to get back to the good ol' days, live your lives and get on with it.   :aok

Its not a matter of having faith.  It is the fact that history repeats intself.  Unfortunately, U.S is at a fast track to collaps and splitting.  But that's just my opinion.

I busted my sons butt in a WalMart once and had some woman start giving me crap about it. He wasn't trying to steal anything, was just throwing a fit because I wouldn't buy him some Power Ranger doo dad he wanted. Anyway this woman comes running over and gets in my face, telling me she's going to contact security and have the police called. I looked at her and told her "Good because if you don't leave me alone and mind your own buisness, your going to need them."

The biggest problem in this country is the whole "it takes a village" mentality. Sorry but in order to get kids to do the right thing doesn't take the village, it takes a parent who's willing and able to be a parent. To many parents are more worried about being their kids best friend, than being a good parent. I'll be friends with my kids when they're out on their own. As long as I have to support them and they live under my roof, I'm not their friend, I'm the all knowing, all seeing, spitefull master of their universe. My kids have no rights, except the ones I allow them to have, and what I give, I can take away. My kids know this and understand it, hence my kids are pretty good. The line not to cross has been clearly established by me, and they don't cross it very often.

Don't get me wrong, my kids and I have fun together and I love them to death, but at the same time I wont hesitate to crack them if the get out of line.

Im just saying that the Roman Empire was the most advanced civilization in history.  They didnt have the technology that we have today, and look what they were able to build and such.

I hope the US is around for a long time, i really do, but if things dont change, within the next couple Generations, there wont be a United States of America....

Thoughts on this?  My opinion is simply that we've become more me than we.  It's a shame, really.
My thoughts are that it's a moderately funny, grossly exaggerated joke.
To each his own...

If you're going to take it seriously, though...

At least where I go to school, this is what actually happens for Scenario #6:

Scenario 6:

Pedro fails 10th Grade English.

1957 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college.
2007 - Pedro retakes 10th grade. English courses cannot be taken in summer school and graduation requires 4 English credits.

#1 is just stupid, I don't know about most states but in PA I'm pretty sure it's illegal to hunt before sun rise, which happens to be around the time school starts. In any case, leaving your shotgun in the car in a parking lot where it can be stolen is irresponsible.

#2 is probably the most accurate, for 2007 at least, fights result in the police being called and assault charges. Expulsion is an exaggeration, though.

#3 Depends on age. Sounds pretty accurate for elementary, however in High School you're going to get detentions, ISS, OSS etc.. nothing different except the lack of physical punishment.

#4 is just an obscene exaggeration... funny though.

#5 why would you take aspirin to school, and why would you share it? Two advils last me until I get home when I have headaches...

#7- see #4

#8 it's discouraged but it happens anyway. No one cares and it doesn't get reported.

Actually in most states, i believe, but i know for sure in Minnesota where i grew up, it was legal to hunt by sunrise.  School didnt start till 8:10 so me n my buddies would meet up around 6 am and be at our spot by 6:30 and hunted geese until 8 o clock or so and went to school, which was about 3 miles from my friends farm house....

We occasionally left our shotguns in the cars but never got busted.  We were the lucky ones, a couple other guys did and got expelled, guns token away and what not.....

But then again, i grew up in a small farming community, my graduating class of 2005 was the largest ever in my schools history. 150 students! lol

Don't get me wrong, my kids and I have fun together and I love them to death, but at the same time I wont hesitate to crack them if the get out of line.

Couldn't agree more! My girlfriend's little brother is growing up in the house where all that matters is being cool, and as a result, hes an 8 year old that cannot tie his shoes, throws tantrums in public, and listens to no one save me. (He listens to me because 1) for some reason he idolizes me, and 2) he has seen me upset, and knows to truly fear my temper) and as a result he constantly ruins things for her and her parents, and they actually LOVE it when I'm around because he almost behaves. My parents were... well, they were the same. They never spanked me, and any punishments were immediately rescinded. They got lucky, I grew up caring what others thought of me, and not wanting to look like an idiot is what prevented me from throwing tantrums in public, and in general, I'm a good kid, but without a doubt I am the dominant one in the relationship. I grew up knowing that at any point in time I can take control of both of my parents, which, well isn't good. And part of me wishes they had a heavier hand in raising me, as I kind of lack certain values (I find it almost disturbingly easy to lie, and go straight to the computer before even thinking of homework). No, I'm not a nightmare devil-child. I'm pretty good as far as teens go (Although Aces High and the people on it tend to bring out the worst in me), but both my parents and I would be happier, if not just a little more productive in our lives if they hadn't feared punishing me as a child.
