Well, we have the "What do you fear most" thread, so now what do you personally find to be the most under-rated plane in the game?
I don't think anything in the set gets more overlooked than the FM-2. People look at the low speed, unremarkable rate of climb and lack of firepower and write her off as an easy target, I think partly coupled with the reputation the Wildcat had during WWII matched up against the Zero. Periodically I drop into the DA if I'm just looking for a quick fix, and after landing six scalps in a furball full of Tempests, Spits, 190s and N1K2s the other night the text buffer was going wild with "Wow's!" and "How did you do that's?!"
However she may be the toughest fighter in the game. I've come home after taking several solid hits from a 262's 30mm; or landed with half a wing shot off, no rudder, missing an elevator, and my engine smoking. She doesn't have the best climb rate but dives exceptionally well and has good E retention. She's also one of the most agile fighters at all speeds in the game. Rate of roll is solid, though not spectacular, and she'll out-turn everything but the Zero and maybe the Hurricane. There's a particular perverse pleasure in sticking it to the Spit drivers who think they can turn with anybody, and her agility makes her an incredibly difficult target, coupled with even cannon fire needing more than a snapshot to put her down.
The FM-2's firepower isn't great but even the 4 .50cal deserve respect, especially when she can create a tracking shot practically at will. Her biggest problem is speed. She can't catch or run from anything, but a lot of opponents seem more than willing to let her bleed them of E where she can get in close and carve them up.
